Convention participants are invited to tour the Papyrus Collection at the University of Michigan Library, located in Ann Arbor, MI, at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 22, 2018. Reservations are required. If you would like to attend or want more information, please email the Rev. Martin Erhardt .  

Musicians are needed for the worship services at the English District Convention. If you sing or play an instrument and would be willing to lend your talents, please contact the Rev. Ryan Beffrey. Rehearsal time is limited, so you will need to be able to read music well. 

Convention offering
The Love Your Neighbor as Yourself 2018 Convention offering will provide financial support for Concordia Lutheran Mission, an outreach of Mount Calvary, Lititz, PA.  Find out more at  concordialc.org , and consider sharing, through your prayers and your gifts, in this mission to bring light into the darkness!
 
Financial donations can be brought for offering at the English District Convention worship service - or donations can be made payable and mailed directly to the English District-LCMS, 33100 Freedom Road, Farmington, MI 48336. Online donations are also accepted on the English District's website . Be sure to indicate "convention offering" in the space provided.

Looking for "Every One His Witness" Workshop Testimonials
 
Our English District Evangelization Team is seeking 2-3 sentence testimonials from individuals who attended one of the many Every One His Witness workshops held across our district. Tell us about your experience with the workshop, how it may have changed your view and understanding of evangelism, and any possible new awareness it brought into your thoughts and life. Serving meals
Members of the Human Care Team at Ascension of Christ, Beverly Hills, MI, cooked and served breakfast for the guests at the Welcome Inn Shelter, located in the Berkley Community Center. The Welcome Inn is open on a very limited schedule in the summer, so having a nice breakfast is a treat for the guests.
Honoring the fallen
During the Memorial Day Parade, members of Ascension of Christ, Beverly Hills, MI, passed out flags to people along the parade route to honor fallen service members.
Comforting Vets
The Prayer Shawl Ministry at Shepherd of the Coast, Palm Coast, FL, handmade blankets for veterans. The shawls are specifically tailored to meet the needs of heroes in wheelchairs. May each of these shawls wrap our patriots in God's comfort and love.
Creating Respite
Seth Vogeli chose Risen Christ, Plymouth, MI, as the recipient of his Eagle Scout Project. There is now a fire pit, benches and a cross behind the church.

Ordination
The Rev. Ben Eder first vice president and pastor of Pilgrim, Kenmore, NY, officiated at the ordination of Candidate Joshua Schmidt at Trinity, Erie, PA. Rev. Schmidt will serve Messiah, Grand Junction, CO.
Retiring
The Rev. Dr. John Fiene will retire after 38 years in pastoral ministry. At 9:00 AM on Sunday, June 3, 2018, he will preach his final sermon at the church, followed by a celebration brunch for his retirement. Click here to read more about Rev. Fiene.

Baptisms!
Zhiqi Maker became the newest member of the body of Christ through the new birth of water and the Spirit in Holy Baptism at Messiah, Danville, CA.
Prince of Peace, Menomonee Falls, WI, welcomed Harper Lee through the waters of Holy Baptism.
Adam, Benjamin, Jacob, and Samuel, students at Emmanuel-St, Michael School, Ft. Wayne, IN, were welcomed into God's family though the waters of Holy Baptism. It was an awesome opportunity for their friends in the third and fourth grades to witness this celebration.
In our schools
A round of applause!
Redeemer Lutheran School, Oakmont, PA, was awarded three prestigious Gene Kelly Awards in the following categories: Best Costumes, Best Scenery, and Best Musical in Budget Category One. What a great experience for the entire cast of Beauty and the Beast.
Celebration
The closing program and graduation day for some of the "lambs" at Faith Preschool, Arlington Heights, IL, was followed by a family picnic and Mr. Bubbles to complete the celebration.   

Exploring the great outdoors
Seventh-graders from Hales Corners Lutheran School, Hales Corners, WI, enjoyed a beautiful day for the annual canoe trip.
Summer dreamin'
In keeping with an ocean theme, preschoolers at Shepherd King, West Bloomfield, MI, decorated beach towels. They also finished jellyfish projects, thoroughly enjoying their unit on the ocean.
Cashing in
The "Fab Friday" store for students opened at Martin Luther Christian School, Pennsauken, NJ. Students had the opportunity to shop and redeem the "Do Good Dollars" they have received for their good deeds
Fieldtrip fun
It was a great day for the students from Grace English Lutheran School, Chicago, IL, to visit the Brookfield Zoo.
 
 
Thoughtful gifts
With the help of two moms, first grade students at West Portal Lutheran School, San Francisco, CA, assembled and painted wooden birdhouses. The children also wrote cards, thanking their parents for their care and love throughout first grade.

2018-2019 English District Financial Aid

Dear Future Church Worker,

Below are links to important information about the 2018-2019 English District Financial Aid Applications. Please read the information carefully and note that TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION.  

Please note that the first time you apply for aid, there are two forms to complete. They are the Financial Aid Information Form and the District Financial Aid Application.   In subsequent years, you only need to complete the application unless your financial or personal situation has changed.

Scholarships are not given to interns, vicars, or graduate students.

CUEnet recently received a significant scholarship grant and they are very excited to share it with students. This gift, combined with those from many other donors who support teachers in colloquy, is going to allow CUEnet to provide each new student who enrolls in the next round of colloquy classes (starting in June or July) with an Old Testament Scholarship of $769.00 for the first class in colloquy, as well as the Borland Scholarship of $275.00 for each subsequent class in the program.
