Due to the public health emergency declared by the Governor and confirmed by the General Assembly, the Douglas County Board of Education conducted its meeting by videoconference and made it available through a livestream on the school system's YouTube channel.
Work Session Agenda

DCSS Police Chief Tracey Whaley presented information on the new police department, including staffing, guiding philosophy, organization and budget.

Board Agenda Discussion and Action Items

The following items were discussed and approved:

Student Achievement and Leadership

  • Purchase of Anatomage Labs for four high schools. The Anatomage Lab is the only fully segmented human 3D anatomy system. Users can visualize anatomy exactly as they would on a cadaver. Individual structures are reconstructed in accurate 3D resulting in an unprecedented level of accurate anatomy. The anatomical structures can be dissected in 3D as well. These tables will be used by the science departments as well as the Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) programs at four of the high schools. This purchase will be funded through ESPLOST.

Finance

  • March 2020 financial report

Technology

  • Purchase of 7,294 Chromebooks and software licensing to be used to support the district’s move to a One to One computing environment. These devices will be used, along with other devices that the district currently has, to provide a computing device for every student. The purchase will be funded through ESPLOST, federal funds and grant funds.

School Nutrition

  • Hazard pay for school nutrition employees
  • Bid renewals for purchased products for school nutrition
  • Bid processing renewals and GEC membership
  • Bid renewals of produce and fresh eggs

Personnel and Policy

  • Certified and classified personnel, including the appointment of Robin Glenn, teacher at Mason Creek Middle School, as assistant principal at Douglas County High School

Jackson, District II; and Rita Fasina-Thomas, District V. Also present were Superintendent Trent North; Assistant Superintendent of District Operations Kwame Carr; Chief Financial Officer Greg Denney; Assistant Superintendent of Student Achievement Melanie Manley; Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Renee Davis; Assistant Superintendent of General Administration Dr. Michelle Ruble; Executive Director of Communications Nell Boggs; and Secretary to the Superintendent Melanie Nicholson.
