Kids Cooking Green

Grades 1 & 2 @ Thoreau School

Kids Cooking Green is coming to Thoreau School this fall!!  We're inviting 1st & 2nd grade children to come and cook with us in our 5 week, after school program. Classes run from 3:30-5:00

Are you a kid who loves food? Join us for 5 weeks of fun in the kitchen learning about local ingredients, meet a local farmer, and create come delicious snacks! We’ll explore what makes food taste good, learn about nutrition, cook with local products, prepare & eat fabulous snack at each class.

Class List:

Yes, Dr. Seuss, there are green eggs, and brown eggs, and blue eggs. We will cook with local colorfuleggs and talk about the different chickens that they come from.

Bee-Licious
Learn about the role of bees in our food and then cook with local honey! Kids will make and eathomemade granola (nut free), and then make their own yogurt-granola parfait. Delicious and nutritious.

Noodles, Noodles
Learn how fun it is to make pasta dough from scratch using local eggs and semolina flour. Roll and thencut your own noodles and make a delicious nut-free pesto to eat with the pasta.

Too Many Pumpkins?
You can never have too many pumpkins! We will start with a local sugar pumpkin, then roast it and itsseeds. We use the pumpkin to mix up our secret waffle recipe and eat it with fruit compote and handwhipped cream. Let’s make a seasonal waffle cake full of local apples and then churn up some deliciousvanilla ice cream.

Farmers Market Pizza
We take a favorite food and “greenify” it. First, we’ll learn about how eating colorful foods helps ourbodies. Then we’ll roll out pizza dough and top it with colorful ingredients.
