Dear St. George Families,
Have you ever thrown a rock or pebble into the still waters of a pond or lake? Did you notice how the little waves ripple away from the center in circles and continue on and on? The same thing happens every day in our lives. Little things we do create ripple effects that can sometimes result in good things.
Just consider the lives you touch during the span of a day, a year, or a lifetime, perhaps without ever realizing it. If we are all separated by only "six degrees" or less, maybe it's the Universe's way of helping us realize our oneness -our interconnectedness- and the "ripple effect" is the connective tissue that ties us together.
Last week I had the privilege of attending a marriage blessing in our Catholic faith. What made it so special was that it was former SGS teacher Mrs. Kiley. Fr. Mike presided in our own St. George Chapel. Mrs. Kiley and her husband moved to Baton Rouge from North Carolina several years ago. She taught 4th grade at St. George School before going on maternity leave. Mrs. Kiley was an outstanding teacher and was embraced by our community at St. George and she and her husband in return embraced St. George. So much in fact, that she and her husband made the decision to go through the RCIA program and became Catholic. This past year , they were brought into full communion with our church, and their daughter has been baptized into the Catholic faith as well. The Kiley's have recently moved to Arkansas and we will miss them here at St. George. But the ripple that began here at St. George has forever made a difference for the Kiley family.
The takeaway is you really do matter; everything you do has an impact on someone, somewhere, even if you don't know them.
May the ripples you send forth this day be guided by the impulse of loving-kindness, selflessness, non-judgment, compassion, and joy. This is what our world needs now and you are the "perfect pebble" to make some mighty waves.
God bless,
Jack Nelson

In honor and support of SGS Dragon, Emmy, we've signed up for the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer, and we need your help to reach our fundraising goal. Support us by joining our team, donating to our team, or by making a donation to a team member.

Why we support St. Jude:
  • Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for anything - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
  • St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate for childhood cancer from less than 20% when we first opened our doors to 80% today. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer. Join Team HERE

OUR LADY'S AWARD - DIOCESE OF BATON ROUGE
Maddie Wilson, a 7th grade St. George student, received "Our Lady's Award" on August 26, 2018 at the Catholic Committee on Scouting Annual Religious Award Ceremony. The award was presented by Baton Rouge Diocese Bishop Michael G. Duca. The "Our Lady's Award" is unique to the Diocese of Baton Rouge and may be earned by Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in grades 4th-6th. This program teaches the scouts the importance of Mary as a role model for our life because her life leads us to Jesus, especially through praying the rosary. As part of the program, Maddie hosted a May Crowing and Rosary Service for Lake Sherwood Retirement and Assisted Living Community this past May. Maddie was accompanied by other St George family and friends; Riley Wilson and Isabelle, Sarah and Audrey Lieux, who helped make this ceremony special for the elderly.
We are Dragon Proud of Maddie!
