Building News
Elementary: Holmes, Denver, East End
We have one combined Calendar for all 3 Elementary Buildings! This year Holmes, Denver, and East End will share one online calendar, making it easier for parents to follow school events for children in different elementary buildings. Building specific events will identify their building first so that you know which events are for which schools.

Holmes Elementary welcomes a new Principal, Dr. Tanner. Our new Elementary Assistant Principal, Mr. Schlater, will be serving both Holmes and Denver. Holmes Elementary also welcomes Taylor Rains as their School Counselor. Mrs. McCoy will be serving as the School Counselor for Denver and East End.

Elementary PTO will hold their first meeting on Tuesday, September 10th, at 6:30 PM. The meeting will be held in the High School Media Center. Our Elementary PTO serves all 3 elementary buildings. You can follow them on facebook @WCSElementaryPTO.

Middle School
WMS welcomes new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Ewry! Many students will see a familiar face from elementary - Mr. Goodman is joining the counseling team at the Middle School, working with Ms. Tolbert. WMS also has a new Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Waugh. We hope you’ll give them all a warm welcome.

High School
The High School has undergone some physical changes from top to bottom, literally! The roof and the flooring received special attention this past summer. In addition to structural improvements, we have some additions to our Guidance Counseling Department. Mrs. Groves (G-O) is transitioning from the MS to the HS team. She’ll be working with Mr. Williams (A-F) and our newest counselor, Ms. Larkin (P-Z), to provide more support for our high school students. WHS also welcomes Mrs. Faris as the new Administrative Assistant in the main office.

This year, the Middle School and High School will share the Academic Booster Club (ABC) to support students in 6th through 12th grade. You can follow the group on facebook @Wilmington-City-Schools-Academic-Booster-Club-114673738630249 /

Students are learning and growing every day, band and choir students are warming up, our student athletes are competing, theatre productions are being planned, and Homecoming 2019 is just around the corner. Great things are in store for the 2019-20 school year at WCS!

FFA Students Achieve!
Drew Moyer, Ridgeden Beam, Bryant Bergefurd, & Brady Bergefurd have been selected to receive the American FFA Degree this October in Indianapolis at the National FFA Convention & Expo. As the highest degree achievable in the National FFA Organization, the American FFA Degree shows an FFA member’s dedication to his or her chapter and state FFA association. It demonstrates the effort FFA members apply toward their supervised agricultural experience and the outstanding leadership abilities and community involvement they exhibited through their FFA career.

American FFA Degree recipients show promise for the future and have gone above and beyond to achieve excellence.

Mason Snyder has been selected to sing in the National FFA Choir at National FFA Convention in October! This is an amazing honor. He will perform in front of a crowd of upwards of 66,000 FFA Members, Advisors, Parents, & FFA Supporters during the 92nd National FFA Convention!

For additional FFA Student achievements, check out the FFA Summer Newsletter .

Congratulations to all of our FFA Students!
Did you know that missing just 2 days a month, excused or unexcused , is considered chronic absence? When students are chronically absent they risk falling behind their peers academically.

This year, each student was given an Attendance Tracker on the first day. We encourage you to talk with your child(ren) about the importance of school attendance, and help them to set attendance goals for the year. Then post it on your refrigerator so they can track their progress throughout the school year. You can learn more about the impact of attendance on your child’s education and download a copy of our Attendance Tracker at wilmingtoncityschools.com/attendance .

Don't forget, you can always check up on their grades and attendance in Progress Book.

Make strong attendance a priority in your family, and help your child create habits that will help them to be successful in school and in life. Learn more today at attendanceworks.org .
