Sharing Food and Prayer
The Arkive: Ark and Dove's Newsletter
You're invited to take part in some essential rest, retreat and prayer this Sunday at both the 9:30 (choir led) and 11:00 (band led) worship services!
Message from Pastor Tim
Dear Friends,

I hope you are finding time for rest, prayer and sabbath this summer. We have 26 people at the Logos Gen-On summit this week, and they have been engaged in Bible study, prayer, recreation and worship all week.  Tomorrow they will be journeying home. All news is that they are having a great and meaningful time. Please offer prayers for journeys mercies.

On the music front, our search teams for interim and permanent directors are highly active and making progress.  You could offer prayers for their continued work.

Thinking about mission, there is still a lot of excitement and hope in knowing that 489 local people attended the Anne Arundel IAF Internal Action last week. Thank you to Steve Debus for speaking so effectively about transportation at the action. Over 240 people signed up to serve on Research Action Teams (20 from Ark and Dove) and each of the six teams will have met by next Thursday. Our goal is to be ready with some positions by the October 4 launch and official naming of IAF.

These are the Six RATS (research action teams)

MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTIONS

SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING

FAIR AND JUST IMMIGRATION

EFFECTIVE AND ENGAGED EDUCATION

CONNECTED AND USEFUL TRANSPORTATION

GUN VIOLENCE

The purpose of Anne Arundel IAF is to advocate for fairness and justice in our county and to hold business and political leaders accountable to the community. IAF is non-partisan and faith-based, with Christians, Muslims and Jews at our center. Nationally the IAF believes that families are one of, if not the the most important, institution(s) in our nation. Families are essential to our nation's well-being and our democracy--and families are under pressure. By working together to strengthen families, we can strengthen our congregations, our county and our country.

Also on mission: if you can find your box of offering envelopes, you will find an August envelope for Habitat For Humanity. Ark and Dove has worked with Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake and its predecessors for over 22 years.  Habitat builds and or renovates homes and sells them interest free to working lower income families. The goal of Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate sub-standard housing everywhere.

Peace of Christ,
Tim

Verse and Prayers
Verse
Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and he divided the two fish among them all. And all ate and were filled; and they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. Those who had eaten the loaves numbered five thousand men.

- Mark 6:41-45
Graces for Family Meals
Blessed are you, O Lord our God, ruler of the universe for you give us food to sustain our lives and make our hearts glad.  Amen.

Blessed are you, Lord. You have fed us from our earliest days; you give food to every living creature. Fill our hearts with joy and delight. Give us what we need and enough to spare for works of mercy in honor of Christ Jesus, our Lord. Through him may glory, honor and power be yours for ever. Amen.

Creator of the universe, you give us this gift of food to nourish us and give us life. Bless this food that you have made and human hands have prepared. May it satisfy our hunger, and in sharing it together may we come closer to one another. Amen.

Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest, and let these gifts to us be blessed. Amen.

All good gifts around us are sent from heaven above, then thank the Lord, O thank the Lord, for all God's love. Amen.

For health and strength and daily food, we praise your name, O Lord.  Amen.

The eyes of all wait upon you, O Lord, and you give them their food in due season. You open wide your hand, and satisfy the needs of every living thing. Thanks be to you. Amen.

God of grace, sustain our bodies with this food, our hearts with true friendship, and our souls with your truth, for Christ's sake.  Amen.

Give us grateful hearts, O God, for all your mercies, and make us mindful of the needs of others;through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
