OUR MISSION:

Neuro Assistance Foundation is dedicated to assisting spinal cord injured and disabled individuals in the Dallas, Fort Worth & Houston areas to achieve self-sufficiency and mobility through assistive vehicles, equipment, technology and home modifications.

OUR VISION:

NAF will strive to ensure that every spinal cord injured or disabled person in our community has the equipment necessary to be mobile and independent.
~Eleven Years and 1,000 Clients~

2019 marks NAF's eleventh year in Texas communities and the year we were able to serve our one thousandth client.

Let me introduce you to Christopher "Eddie" Wolfe, age 11. Eddie has a tethered spinal cord and was referred to us by Scottish Rite Hospital.  Eddie is able to walk and run but some of his internal organs are affected by his tethered spinal cord. His family is waiting to get on a state funding list and in the meantime, Eddie needs medical supplies which we are providing.

Eddie lives in Watauga with his family. He came  to our Hot Hatch Chili Run, Walk & Roll and ran in our 5K. Way to go, Eddie!

Here's a bio Eddie wrote for our newsletter:

August 23,2019
My name is Eddie Wolfe and tomorrow is my eleventh birthday. I like my crazy life! I have a cat named Simone, who is one of my best friends. I love playing video games, especially Goat Simulator and Minecraft. I invent things like weapons and armor. My favorite subject is science. I love biology and engineering. I also love to make things out of cardboard boxes. I love making jokes and riddles and want to be a Christian comedian someday. I ride a bike and I love to swim. I love to go to Sunday school and serving at church.

~Preparing for a Disaster
For Those Living with Disabilities~

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) recently held a webinar and produced an article on how individuals with disabilities can effectively prepare for an emergency. I have listed out some of the key take-a-ways from the article here for your quick review.

  • Have a check list of items to complete before
a disaster hits! They have created a helpful checklist, pictured to the right.
  • Always Plan Ahead
  • Have a Support Network
Specific emergencies covered in the article include:
  • Power Outage
  • Fire
  • Medical Emergency
  • Extreme Heat
  • Winter Weather - Extreme Cold
  • Floods
  • Tornadoes
  • Hurricanes
  • Earthquakes

Always have in mind your emergency preparedness kit. MDA has made some suggestions, pictured below.

A Wheelchair Accessible Vacation Anyone?

John Morris, a "passionate traveler, triple amputee and wheelchair user created a
wheelchair travel blog to show others that traveling with a disability is possible". He has "flown more than 750,000 miles and visited 30 countries and territories - all with just one hand, a passport and power wheelchair".

His blog is designed to help disabled travelers locate information and resources that will help in planning a wheelchair accessible vacation. He answers frequently asked questions on train and air travel, such as "Are trains equipped with accessible restrooms"? and "How can I get my wheelchair on a train"?

If you would like to hear John speak in person come to the #AbilitiesExpo in Dallas this December! The Dallas Abilities Expo will take place from December 13-15, 2019 at the Dallas Market Center.

Check out John's blog on his website at wheelchairtravel.org

A Note From Chuck...

"Thank you for all the effort you have spent to insure that my home is a better place to live in for a person suffering from a spinal cord injury!
You are a wonderful source of encouragement to me!"

A Note From Keith...

Hello, my name is Keith B Murphy. I am 52 years old and an Army veteran. On August 28, 2018 I was hit by a lady that ran a red light. In the accident my left shoulder was dislocated, 7 broken ribs, collapsed lung, lacerated kidney,
broken hip, broken pelvis, and my left leg was amputated at the hip. I was paralyzed for the first 8 weeks after I woke up out of a coma 9 days later. Upon leaving the hospital I was fitted with a basic wheelchair that only just got me from point A to point B but not very comfortably and through a friend of mine I heard about the Neuro Assistance Foundation... You... are the reason why it was an Honor for me  to serve in our nation's Armed Forces, words cannot express the appreciation and gratitude that I have  for you helping me out with a "real" wheelchair and not asking me for anything in return, you are the TRUE essence of the America I love, I am honored and privileged to know You.
                                                                                    Thank You very kindly

We Need Your Help

Donate ~ Sponsor ~ Volunteer

Your $25 donation will help provide clean catheters to a paralyzed child for one month when their insurance won't cover the expense.

Your $100 donation will help build a wheelchair ramp so we can get our clients out of rehab and through their front door at home.

Your $200 donation will help widen the doorways in their homes so their wheelchair can fit through the bathroom door. Insurance doesn't covers home modifications.

Your $500 donation will help provide life-changing medical equipment: wheelchairs and specialized shower chairs, etc. Most insurance only covers a small part of wheelchairs, if any, and no "bathing aids" are covered.

No donation is too small. Click here for more information.
