Collect of the Day
Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for Prophetic Witness in Society
Almighty God, whose prophets taught us righteousness in the care of your poor: By the guidance of your Holy Spirit, grant that we may do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly in your sight; through Jesus Christ, our Judge and Redeemer, who lives and reigns with you and the same Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

God, our Creator, we are held in your everlasting arms,
Jesus, our Savior, we are healed by your wounded hands,
Holy Spirit, be present as we reach out to one another in love.

"May I become at all times, both now and forever,
a protector for those without protection
a guide for those who have lost their way
a ship for those with oceans to cross
a bridge for those with rivers to cross
a sanctuary for those in danger
a lamp for those who need light
a place of refuge for those needing shelter
and a servant to all those in need."

Reflection

"God does not demand that we give up our personal dignity, that we throw in our lot with random people, that we lose ourselves and turn from all that is not him. God needs nothing, asks nothing, and demands nothing, like the stars. It is a life with God which demands these things. Experience has taught the race that if knowledge of God is the end, then these habits of life are not the means but the condition in which the means operates. You do not have to do these things; not at all. God does not, I regret to report, give a hoot. You do not have to do these things - unless you want to know God. They work on you, not on him. You do not have to sit outside in the dark. If, however, you want to look at the stars, you will find that darkness is necessary. But the stars neither require nor demand it."

This Weekend and Beyond
CAN YOU HELP?
Over the years we have occasionally given help in the form of prepaid gift cards to several area grandmothers who are supporting disabled children and grandchildren . As the new school year approaches they are in need of school supplies and clothing.   If you are able to help with gift cards to places like Target, ShopRite or Walmart, or with prepaid Visa or MasterCards in small amounts they would be most grateful.  One family also has ongoing need for large size disposable diapers. Donations can be dropped at the office or in the collection plate on Sundays. Thank you.

Living on God's Earth

This week's earth-friendly living tip: Rise for Climate, Jobs, and Justice on September 8

This September, global leaders will gather in California for the Global Climate Action Summit. Just before the summit, on Saturday, September 8th, Americans and other concerned people around the globe will speak out at a series of events called "Rise for Climate, Jobs and Justice." Can you attend one of these events and make your voice heard?

Taking "green" steps in our individual lives and parishes is an important part of fighting human-caused climate change, but it won't be quite enough. We also need to work together to change the larger systems of our society. That's why on September 8, tens of thousands of people from across the country - including faith groups like Green Faith and Interfaith Power & Light - will be present in the streets, at rallies and town halls, and at community forums to demand bold climate action and shape the future of the world for years to come.

Visit https://peoplesclimate.org to find an event near you and RSVP today. If you can attend an event, bring a sign or wear a shirt or cross that marks you as a person of faith - it's up to us to show the world that climate change is a moral issue!

Then on Wednesday, September 12, the summit will kick off with a multi-faith service in San Francisco's Grace (Episcopal) Cathedral. You can livestream the service online: Visit https://www.gracecathedral.org or http://globalclimateactionsummit.org for more information.
Parting Thought

There'll be turbulence. You'll drop
your book to hold your
water bottle steady. Your
mind, mind has mountains, cliffs of fall
may who ne'er hung there let him
watch the movie. The plane's
supposed to shudder, shoulder on
like this. It's built to do that. You're
designed to tremble too. Else break
Higher you climb, trouble in mind
lungs labor, heights hurl vistas
Oxygen hangs ready
overhead. In the event put on
the child's mask first. Breathe normally.
