Alliance Sea Level Rise Workshop
The Gulf of Mexico Alliance held a Northern Gulf of Mexico Sea Level Rise Data, Scenarios, & Modeling Workshop on August 7th-9th, 2018. The goals were to develop a template for developing sea level rise scenarios; and, to examine recent geospatial outputs both with a focus on modeling landscape change.
The workshop was in partnership with the NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science and the Northern Gulf of Mexico Sentinel Site Cooperative. Nearly 50 people attended the event located at the Gulf Coast Research Lab's Marine Education Center in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Invited experts as well a diverse group of state, federal and academic members of the Alliance's Community Resilience, Habitat Resources, and Wildlife & Fisheries Priority Issue Teams, attended the workshop.

ICYMI: Hess Corporation Joints the Gulf Star Program
The Gulf of Mexico Alliance was pleased to announce this month a new partnership with Hess Corporation (NYSE: HES), which aims to invest in projects that support a healthy and productive Gulf of Mexico. Hess is a leading independent oil and gas producer in the Gulf of Mexico and is the newest supporter of the Alliance's Gulf Star Program.

NatureServe Ecological Resilience Indicators Report
NatureServe just released a new report, "Ecological Resilience Indicators for Five Northern Gulf of Mexico Ecosystems." It is the result of a project that established conceptual ecological models for salt marsh, mangrove, seagrass, oyster, and coral ecosystems.
The models guide the identification of indicators, the metrics used to assess them, and metric ratings that allow evaluation of ecological conditions and ecosystem service provisions.

New Louisiana Coastwide Reference Monitoring System Website (CRMS Wetlands)
The Coastwide Reference Monitoring System (CRMS), funded through the Coastal Wetlands, Planning, Protection and Restoration Act Task Force and the State of Louisiana, provides data for several monitoring parameters from restoration projects. Data includes land to water ratios, surface water salinity, surface water temperature, water levels, soil porewater, vegetation, soil characteristics, marsh surface elevation, and accretion.
Two webinar trainings will be held September 11, 2018, to orient users how to use the resource.

Activities related to Deepwater Horizon oil spill research and restoration are updated monthly.
Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council (RESTORE Council) - This month, in conjunction with Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, the RESTORE Council announced an inaugural Alabama Restoration Summit to be held on October 11, 2018. Updates on multiple DWH restoration types will be held.

Florida -
The
Gulf Consortium
and
Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) maintain websites
of related restoration information.
Alabama - The Alabama Gulf Coast Recovery Council (AGCRC)
activity is available on their website.
Mississippi - The Mississippi Restoration Summit is planned for November 13, 2018 in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Restoration in Mississippi is led by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality. Visit the Office of Restoration web page for announcements, procurement opportunities, project updates, and more.
Louisiana - This month, Governor Educators announced an Interagency Coastal Storm Surge-Based Flood Risk and Resilience Awareness Campaign. The campaign focuses on the state's Master Plan which identifies risk to state infrastructure, services, health care, and education. The State of Louisiana is represented by the CPRA on state and RESTORE Council activities. Restoration activities are conducted in conjunction with the State's Master Plan. C

NOAA RESTORE Science Program -
This month the program announced it has joined the OneNOAA Seminar Series. Over the coming months, research teams will share results of their NOAA RESTORE Science Program funded projects. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Gulf Research Program -
This month NAS Gulf Research Program released the 2017 Annual Report. It highlights grant awards and fellowships that align with the programs long-term vision. The program announced their 2018 Science Policy Fellows and has two careers opportunities available.

Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) -
The Trustee Implementation Group (TIG) announcements this month include:
- The Louisiana TIG began pre-construction monitoring activities on North Breton Island for a project that will ultimately involve bird habitat restoration.
National Fish & Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) -
This month NFWF announced 2018 grant awards in the Five Star and Ubran Waters Restoration Program and the Gulf Coast Conservation Grants Program among others. Grantees include members of the Partnership for Gulf Coast Land Conservation. A complete list of the NFWF supported projects and open Requests for Proposals can be found on their website.
North American Conservation Wetlands Act fund (NAWCA) - Information for this program is available on the
NAWCA website.
Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI) - The 2019 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and Ecosystem Science Conference (GoMOSES) is planned for February 4 - 7, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans in New Orleans, LA. Registration is now open. Get comprehensive information on GoMRI research at

NAS Gulf Research Program
Thriving Communities 5 - Applications should demonstrate approaches that will advance information exchange between resilience researchers and those that seek to implement policies and practices to enhance the resilience and well-being of their communities. The required letter of intent is due September 19, 2018 and full proposals are due November 28, 2018.
NOAA NMFS
FY19 Cooperative Research Program (CRP) - Project proposals seek to improve and strengthen the relationship between fisheries researchers from NMFS, state fishery agencies, and universities and the U.S. fishing industry (recreational and commercial). The deadline is September 21, 2018.
Naiku Innovative
Educator Grants - Grants support K-12 classroom teachers in public or private schools seeking to facilitate differentiated and data-driven instruction within teacher teams and/or personalize learning with learner-centric assessment strategies. Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis through September 30, 2018.
NOAA Marine Debris Program
Community-based Marine Debris Removal Projects - Projects awarded through the removal grant competition will create long-term, quantifiable ecological habitat improvements for NOAA trust resources, with priority consideration for efforts targeting derelict fishing gear and other medium- and large-scale debris. Projects should also foster public awareness of the effects of marine debris to further the conservation of living marine resource habitats, and contribute to the understanding of marine debris composition, distribution and impacts. The deadline is October 29, 2018.
