WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY
@ 9:15 AM (contemporary praise, lower level)
@ 10:30 AM (blended traditional, sanctuary)
GOD, POLITICS & THE CHURCH
Our nation seems more polarized than ever. In a politically divisive culture, how do we engage politics through the lens of Christ our King? This Sunday we will take a look at this topic, and hopefully learn how to model unity despite our differences.

Next week is “Kickoff Sunday!” With breakfast downstairs during the 9:15am hour, both worship services will be in the sanctuary. Our 10:30am worship will include the dedication our new gathering area, “The Well,” and our new nursery. Join us on September 9 th for this very special event.

LADIES' EVENING BIBLE STUDY
STARTS OCTOBER 2!
Inviting all women of the church to join us for our kickoff Bible Study event, to be held on Tuesday October 2 nd , 7pm at Elissa Schoenlank’s home (see Church Directory).

Elissa has been involved in art her entire life and claims she lives in an art gallery which she is prepared to share with us. We plan to gather at her house at 7pm, have a Mexican style buffet dinner, look at art and hear about her ongoing work, now that she is devoting her time to painting. Following this, we will focus on our journey forward in our Bible Study together.

This evening will also include beginning our bible study on “Experiencing God’s Presence”. In this first study in the  Jesus Calling Bible Study Series,  you will be encouraged to lay down your cares and just spend time each day with your heavenly Father. As you follow the Lord’s instruction to “be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10), you will encounter His peace, be filled with His strength, gain a new perspective on your situation, and experience the full life that only He can provide .

Study Books are $9 each and copies will be available for sale at church on upcoming Sundays (or in the church office during the week). Again, very casual, come as you can, arrive late, leave early. Wear sweatpants or pajamas. Even if you cannot attend all weeks, we encourage you to join us at Elissa’s house for the opportunity to view her beautiful artwork.

Dates: Every other Tuesday evening at 7pm
Tuesday, 10/2 (Elissa Schoenlank’s home)
Tuesdays, 10/16, 10/30, 11/13, 11/27, 12/11   (Kimm Ebersole’s home)

Sign up sheet and books are in Narthex!

From Liz Howley to all Ladies of Wayne Church,

The Women's Retreat is coming... and you are invited. Last year, I decided to ignore the many reasons I couldn't go - the kids need me, too many chores to do, too busy with work - and signed up. Making that decision to go was a blessing in many ways. I found there was something very special about being on a retreat with a group of women. It was an opportunity to listen, share and escape the busyness of my life. Sitting quietly in nature enriched my understanding of Christ; and my faith. I developed long-lasting bonds with the other women on the retreat.

The retreat team did a beautiful job of mixing small and large group discussion with free-time to read or explore the lovely grounds. There were also plenty of laughs, hugs, and most amazing, a true sense of calm. I left with new friends, a refreshed outlook and a deeper faith.

If you are thinking about attending, I encourage you to do so. Think of it as a re-TREAT. You deserve it!

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS!
Some of our shelves are running low! Donations would be greatly appreciated so we can continue serving our community. We are running low on... cereal, pasta and sauce, peanut butter & jelly, tuna and rice/pasta side dishes.

Also, we are always looking for volunteers who would be willing to help Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9am – to 1pm. You can even sign-up for a half-shift (9-11am or 11am-1pm.) Duties entail handing out Food Pantry bags and greeting visitors. (You can bring a book, tablet, or laptop to pass the time!) This is a vital ministry! Our volunteers are the face of our church to those who are in need, and your friendly face can go a long way toward making our recipients feel comfortable and welcome!

AUGUST LEADERSHIP MOMENT!
We have all heard the statistic that 9 out of 10 churches are either declining, or growing so slowly, that they are not keeping up with the growth nor the changing demographic dynamics, of their communities. To address this, the Leadership team has been using a tool to measure their effectiveness titled “Eight Common Characteristics of Successful Church Revitalizations”.
FALL RUMMAGE SALE SEPTEMBER 14 & 15!
SALE HOURS: Friday, 8:30am – 1 pm, Saturday, 9am – 12 noon
We begin accepting donations on Sunday, September 9 after 11:30am
August is a great time to clean out those closets and send your no-longer-needed treasures to Rummage!   Our September sales are highly anticipated and heavily attended, so please look around your attic and closets and find those items that you no longer use, but others will. This is the best sale of the year to donate your HALLOWEEN and other fall decoratives and clothing, so please don’t hold these until after autumn.   We always appreciate better-quality name brand and ‘vintage’ items, and all nice decoratives, smaller occasional furniture, rugs, baby/child/adult seasonal clothing, DVD’s and CD’s - things you’d like to buy or be given yourself!   We cannot accept TV/computer monitors, text books, encyclopedias or anything stained or broken.    We can only sell newer and nice books, especially best sellers or good-condition children’s books, so please send us only your best books.   AND THEN COME SHOP!! Volunteers for set-up, sales and pack-up are also always needed. To volunteer or get more information, please contact Virginia Gardiner ( gardiner.family@outlook.com ).   THANK YOU!!
