The Back of the Net
Director Message:
One of the most common things players hear from coaches and parents is, "Play faster!" Increasing a player's speed of play is important. Time is the most critical and limited resource in the game (along with space). With that said, just telling a player to "play faster" can have negative consequences on their development.

COMPARING YOUR CHILD

Although it is hard in today's environment, do not judge your child's development against other kids around his or her same age. It is too easy to see other kids who are either way beyond your child's level or far behind and make two very dangerous false assumptions. Either A) my child is gifted and will be great at this game, or B) my child is not good enough and it probably does not make sense to continue to play.  Read more!

Don't be a Statistic:
How to Beat the Injury Stats and Stay on the Field

All athletes know that by participating in a sport, they run the risk of experiencing an injury. While there are many factors that can determine the type and severity of an injury, there are a few general statistics that soccer players should keep in mind before they the take the field:
  • Female athletes are between 2 and 6 times more likely to suffer an ACL injury compared to male athletes.
  • 30,000 high school and college female athletes will injure their knees this year.
  • The same number of males will injure their knees. However, for every 1 female high school or collegiate athlete, there are 5 males.
  • In the past 15 years, ankle sprains have decreased by 86% while knee ligament injuries have increased by 172%.
These are some scary numbers. Luckily, Classics Eagles athletes have an advantage! Whether you have already experienced an injury or are hoping to prevent an injury from occurring, Orthopedic ONE's Chris Kent, PT, AT and Josh Horn, AT can perform flexibility, strength and movement screens which can identify potential injury risks or pinpoint the cause of a current ailment.

These screenings have helped explain things like how tight hips limit speed and contribute to hamstring pulls and how low back pain, weak hips and flat feet put more stress on the knee. Once identified, these findings can then be shared with your strength coaches to help improve training sessions or be used to make recommendations for a physician referral or physical therapy treatment.

Orthopedic ONE Clinic Hours
  • Mondays from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at SuperKick (with Chris Kent, PT, AT)

Please continue to utilize the Orthopedic ONE Sports Injury Hotline at 614-827-8210 for sports injury concerns requiring immediate response.
