Each year, the Library of Virginia recognizes eight notable women through the Virginia Women in History program and exhibition. Fredericksburg resident Gaye Adegbalola is a 2018 honoree for her contributions to education, civil rights, and music. Adegbalola has received numerous awards in recognition of her passions, including:
- Virginia's 1982 Teacher of the Year
- 1990 Annual Blues Award for best song for "Middle-Aged Blues Boogie" with Saffire – The Uppity Blues Women
- Equality Virginia’s 2011 Outstanding Virginian

Adegbalola will be kicking off the 33rd Annual Music on the Steps series with a performance at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, at Fredericksburg Branch.
