Virginia Women in History exhibit at downtown library honors eight women including Fredericksburg native Gaye Adegbalola
Fredericksburg, Virginia, May 29, 2018 - Central Rappahannock Regional Library's Fredericksburg Branch is hosting the Library of Virginia's 2018 Virginia Women in History exhibit through June 21.

Each year, the Library of Virginia recognizes eight notable women through the Virginia Women in History program and exhibition. Fredericksburg resident Gaye Adegbalola is a 2018 honoree for her contributions to education, civil rights, and music. Adegbalola has received numerous awards in recognition of her passions, including:

  • Virginia's 1982 Teacher of the Year
  • 1990 Annual Blues Award for best song for "Middle-Aged Blues Boogie" with Saffire – The Uppity Blues Women
  • Equality Virginia’s 2011 Outstanding Virginian

Other 2018 honorees include:

  • Isabella Gibbons
  • Marii Kyogoku Hasegawa
  • Kay Coles James
  • Barbara Kingsolver
  • Mary Aydelotte Rice Marshall
  • Temperance Flowerdew Yeardley

Adegbalola will be kicking off the 33rd Annual Music on the Steps series with a performance at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, at Fredericksburg Branch.
