Fifteenth Sunday After Pentecost
September 2, 2018
"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.
We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

Art and I appreciate more than you can know all the prayers, calls, cards, notes and food this summer as Art gets stronger and we both recover from this fateful summer after his major heart attack. Although it has been quite a stressful journey, still one filled with blessings in abundance! From the White County EMTs who got him to the cath lab ASAP, to the wonderful doctor who intervened and stopped the attack, and all the special nurses and techs who worked with him diligently for 19 days in the hospital, to the great folks at cardio rehab who are working with him presently...blessings one and all. Please know that a HUGE abundant blessing is being a part of this faithful Resurrection family, the church being such an integral part of our lives. We send a special thanks to each of you, and say...keep on praying!
Most sincerely,
Joanna and Art (Tink) Moylan

This Sunday's Anthem:
All Good Gifts
From Godspell, by Stephen Schwartz
Solo by Brandon Nonnemaker
We plow the fields and scatter the good seed on the land
But it is fed and watered by God's almighty hand
He sends us snow in winter, the warmth to swell the grain
The breezes and the sunshine, and soft refreshing rain.
All good gifts around us
Are sent from Heaven above
So thank the Lord, oh thank the Lord for all his love.
We thank thee then, O Father, for all things bright and good,
The seedtime and the harvest, our life, our health, our food,
No gifts have we to offer for all thy love imparts
But that which thou desirest, our humble thankful hearts!
All good gifts around us
Are sent from Heaven above
So thank the Lord, oh thank the Lord for all his love
I really wanna thank you Lord!
When John-Michael Tebelak was first piecing together the college production of Godspell, he remembered a harvest song in the Episcopal hymnal that is sometimes performed at Thanksgiving services with other music: Hymn 138, "We Plow the Fields, and Scatter." Tebelak asked his friend Duane Bolick to write music to go with the words so the song could be used in Act I of the new musical. Bolick wrote a slow ballad that would be accompanied by a rock band.
In 1971, Stephen Schwartz prepared his version of the music for the final incarnation of Godspell at the Cherry Lane Theatre. He used the same lyrics but wrote his own music. He says he was inspired, in part, by the introductory chords to James Taylor's song "Fire and Rain."

New Year Begins September 5!
I will be offering a second year beginning in September called ACTS (Adult Christian Theological Study). The group will meet Wednesday evenings at 6:00 for approximately 90 minutes for the school calendar year, taking the same days and weeks off as the school calendar. This group this year will do an in-depth exploration of the New Testament and Theology, coupled with an intimate small group supportive learning environment.
The only costs will be for the text books, which will total less than $40.
I hope that the outcome of this group will be to theologically educate individuals properly who can think theologically about today's challenges of loving God and neighbor.
The only requirements to be part of this group is that you seek Christian maturity, have an open mind for inquisitive learning, an open heart for mutual group peer support, and a willingness to regularly attend the agreed-upon meetings for the school year.

As last year, the retreat will be held at the Bishop's Retreat Center at Camp Mikell, Toccoa, GA. The cost for great food, great programming, optional crafts, hiking, lots of free time and loads of great company is $170. Think about bringing a new or old friend along.

[email protected].
There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex.
