MEM / PriSim Football Tailgate Reminder - RSVP by August 31st!  
Enjoy MEM's annual tradition with students, alumni, and faculty 
 
  
 
Kick-off the fall by networking with current MEM students, alumni, and faculty at the annual football tailgate! The family-friendly pre-game tailgate event will be hosted by MEM and PriSim Business War Games.  The event will take place on:
 
Date - Saturday, September 8th 2018
Time - 9:00 to 11:00 am  (Game starts at 11:00 am) 
Venue - Garrett parking lot    
Registration is Required:  Football Tailgate Registration 
 
There will be coffee, bagels, burgers, drinks, and games! MEM students, faculty, and alumni interested in going to the game (NU vs. Duke) can also request game tickets through the registration link. Wear purple, b ring your game face, and we hope to see you there!

Blog article describes recent alum Sheel Saket's MEM experience
 
 
Sheel Saket, Spring 2018 Graduate

Recent MEM Alum Sheel Saket describes his amazing journey pursuing his MEM degree. Selecting skill-developing courses, working on university projects, and helping a homegrown startup at The Garage incubator all expanded his analytical skills and allowed him to transition into the data science field.  He recently secured a full-time opportunity at Datacubes Inc. Sheel wrote a recent blog article describing his experiences:  
 
"I never expected this transition to be very easy, but I'm on my way. This was only possible due to the flexibility of the MEM program and the support from all the faculty members and advisors."

Course Description - This course is designed as an introductory course to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) for anyone working in the industrial sector or planning to embark in a career around IoT.  At the end of the course, you'll have a strong command of Industry Dynamics, IoT Technology Architecture and the IoT Ecosystem.
 
About the Faculty - MEM Alum Shahid Ahmed is currently an advisor to several early stage firms focused on the wireless, IoT and digital sectors helping entrepreneurs turn innovative ideas into world class companies. Additionally, he is helping telecom operators transform into digital companies.

Course DescriptionThe class focuses on understanding customer problems, developing customer research hypotheses, simple MVP tests, market requirements documentation, product requirements, and a product vision deck. All of these are very distinct from typical company formation deliverables as they are all geared to the use cases of problems of your customers and your actual product.  
 
About the facultyBirju Shah is currently a Group Product Manager at Uber Technologies LLP. He leads the product group for the sensor inference & vision platform teams at Uber. Prior to Uber, Birju was a product lead at Climate Corporation where he led the Yield Analytics team. Birju is also a board & product advisor to several start-ups, fortune 500, and venture capital firms.  His product focus is on machine data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence platforms for consumer & enterprise use cases.

Hailing from Almaty, Kazakhstan,  Akhan Turmagambetov  is a MEM full-time student and holds a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Moscow State Technical University followed by 7 years of experience in Oil & Gas conglomerate  Saipem . He is a thrill seeker and an avid traveler.  Another interesting personal trait is that Akhan is secretly a palm reader and understands human psychology. Thao-Ta
Lab Manager, Citgo

Thao Minh Ta  originally from Hanoi, Vietnam is a '18 alumna of the Northwestern MEM program. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from The University of New Mexico and is currently a Lab Manager at Citgo Petroleum Corporation .  She loves exploring new places and trying different cuisines with her family.
