Opportunities to Participate in WAMA

The WAMA board is looking for members interested in participating on committees to help further develop our association! We have spots available on the following committees:

Scholarship and Awards Committee - This committee is responsible for the solicitation, review and award of applications for WAMA collegiate and professional development scholarships and WAMA awards given out to industry leaders at our annual aviation conference. Contact Dave Jensen if you are interested in participating in this committee.

Member Relations Committee - This committee is responsible for recruitment and retention of WAMA members including development of activities and programs that add value to the WAMA membership. Contact Kurt Stanich if you are interested in participating in this committee.

Wisconsin Aviation Conference Planning Committee - This committee is responsible for the development of the program and overall planning of the annual Wisconsin Aviation Conference. This committee does require participation in several in person and/or phone meetings at various locations throughout the State over the period leading up to the conference. Contact Greg Cullen to participate in the conference committee.
UPCOMING TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

The following training opportunities are being offered in Wisconsin in September. These are great national training opportunities being offered close to home, reducing the travel expense for attendees!


AAAE Advanced ASOS School 

WAMA has coordinated with the American Association of Airport Executives to host an Advanced ASOS School,  September 10-11, 2019, at the Central Wisconsin Airport.

The is one seat remaining at the WAMA discounted rate which can be obtained by contacting Brian Grefe. Additional information on the course and registration for the remaining seats through AAAE can be found HERE.


AAAE ACE Operations Review Course             

The General Mitchell International Airport (MKE), in collaboration with the American Association of Airport Executives, will be hosting an Airport Certified Employee - Airfield Operations Review Course in Milwaukee, September 23-26, 2019. Additional information on the course and registration information can be found HERE . 


2019 USDA Wildlife Hazard Management Training

The Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport will be hosting annual USDA Wildlife Hazard Management Training for aviation personnel on Wednesday, September 25th at 10am. Space is still available so please contact Matthew Leitner for more information.

While pilots descending into the Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee are preparing TO land, dedicated farmers down below are preparing THE land...

The Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA) has a long history of leasing agricultural land to area farmers. For years, about 300 acres of land outside the airport's perimeter fence has been used to grow traditional Wisconsin crops such as corn, soybeans, rye, and alfalfa. These leases have made tillable land available to local farmers, while generating a modest income for our regional airport:

In 2018, CWA agricultural leases generated approximately $69 per acre (over $20,000) in non-aeronautical revenue.

The last of CWA's long-term agricultural leases expired in 2018. This created an opportunity to form some new community partnerships and to explore additional uses for the airport's agricultural land...

Digital NOTAMs

Have you been holding off on signing your airport up to use Digital NOTAMs? There are already about 35 WI airports who are already experiencing the benefits of using digital NOTAMs. Below is a list of the top reasons to switch to using digital NOTAMs.

Top Reasons to switch to Digital NOTAMs:
  1. Speed
    • no waiting on the phone to explain your NOTAM request to     another party.
    • NOTAM sentence construction is fast and efficient.
    • NOTAM is distributed Nationwide in 3 seconds!
       
  2. NOTAM Sentence format; NOTAM Manager auto-formats all digital NOTAMs correctly (over 98% accuracy).
     
  3. Sortable; all NOTAMs can be found easily or sorted via keywords or NOTAM number.
     
  4. Construction Notice Diagrams (CND); only NOTAM Manager Airports will be able to submit CNDs beginning mid-2020 (tentative date).
     
  5. Automatically uploads Construction Notice digital diagram to NOTAM SEARCH and PILOT WEB.
     
  6. NOTAM History; Airport has 13 months of NOTAM History always available.  Any current requirement to archive hard copy NOTAMs may be eliminated.

We Keep La Crosse Flying

Like many airports across the nation, we at the La Crosse Regional Airport are challenged by attempting to portray a clear yet distinctive picture of the relationships that exist between the airport and our tenants. We want to portray to our passengers and our community that we are a "one airport team" but that we all have our own unique role in helping to keep La Crosse flying.

The "We Keep La Crosse Flying" photo series is an initiative that not only highlights the unique roles that exist at the airport but also aims to educate the community and inspire young people on the different careers that exist within aviation. With the pilot shortage looming over airports and airlines across the world, we believe we have a duty in helping to educate and inspire careers in aviation, even if only within our own little corner of the world.

One day + Two cities + Three flights = The Flight of Champions

Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport (GRB)

Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport and Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport will be part of a historic event on Saturday, October 19, 2019. That's when the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Bucks will team up with Stars and Stripes Honor Flight for the Flight of Champions; taking three planeloads of local veterans to Washington D.C. 

This "Flight of Champions," announced on August 27, will honor approximately 240 WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans from southeastern and east central Wisconsin with a one day, all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built in their honor, and to experience a full day of honor and thanks for their service to our nation.
