Garland Named a Best Place for Money Savers
Garland continues to stack up as a wise investment, as it was ranked No. 3 in the country in financial services website GOBankingRates' recent list of "The 20 Best Places to Live If You're Trying to Save Money."

The study looked at incomes and costs of living in more than 100 American cities. Costs of housing, food and transportation were factored into the rankings.  Not only is Garland third overall, it has the largest median household income among the top 11 cities on the list. Find out more.
Skatepark Design Workshop Tuesday, Sept. 10 
Be a part of creating Garland's modern concrete skatepark, which will be located at Rick Oden Park. 

Learn about this exciting community project and contribute your ideas for the facility's design at this come-and-go style meeting from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Granger Annex Building at Central Park, 1302 W. Avenue F.
Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale at the South Garland Branch Library
Shoppers may find great bargains on a variety of adult and children's books, fiction and nonfiction, paperback and hardcover, and reference books, as well as puzzles, DVDs, audio books and computer games at the  Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.

The public book sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14. A Friends members-only preview will be available until 8:30 p.m. following the 6 p.m. annual membership meeting Thursday, Sept. 12.

Garland Guzzler Saturday, Sept. 28

Flu Shots Available at Garland Public Health Clinic
The Garland Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., has received its first shipment of vaccine for the 2019-20 flu season. 

Flu shots are available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays for adults and children who are insured. Call 972-205-3370 for pricing and to learn what insurance plans are accepted.

Apply for Cultural Arts Grants Through Sept. 20
The Garland Cultural Arts Commission, Inc., announces its 2019-20 grant program for local arts groups, historic preservation organizations and other artistic entities.
 
Applications may be picked up at the Granville Arts Center Box Office, 300 N. Fifth St. in Downtown Garland. Applications will be available between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday through Sept. 19. Learn more.

Literacy for Life
Sept. 21
The Community Multicultural Commission will co-host the free Literacy for Life event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.  The event at the Curtis Culwell Center, 4999 Naaman Forest Blvd., will feature free food, prizes and giveaways for all ages. Learn more

Mayor Scott LeMay will host an Evening In event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Mayor's Office, 200 N.
