Happy New Year and welcome back! We are thankful to see our students filling the hallways of our school. Friday will be a Freedom Friday Dress down day for the students. We appreciate your continued diligence in performing the COVID screen and logging the results into the Plus Portal. Please refer to page 53 of the School Handbook for guidelines on the Dress Down Day dress code. As a reminder, leggings, yoga pants and pajama pants are not permitted. Students will be cited for not following dress code policies.
Midterm Exam Schedule
Midterm examinations will be given on January 13, 14 and 15. Students should report to their first exam at the time designated. For students whose first exam is at 9:45 a.m., please enter through the Main Entrance on South Oxford Avenue and go to the lobby until the first period exam is complete. Students will be dismissed each day after their last exam. For most students, the second exam ends at 11 a.m., however AP students, students in instructional support or students who have more than one class in the same department may be dismissed later. Please check with you student as time his or her exam is.
The exam schedule is as follows:
January 13- 8:15 a.m. Religion // 9:45 a.m. Social Studies // 11:00 a.m. Doubles
January 14- 8:15 a.m. English // 9:45 a.m. Science // 11:00 a.m. Doubles
January 15 - 8:15 a.m. Foreign Language // 9:45 a.m. Math // 11:00 a.m. Doubles
Maryland and Pennsylvania buses will pick up students at 2:45 p.m. For students who need to wait for a 2:45 p.m. bus pick-up, there is a sign-up form in the Main Office. Once the form is submitted, students must stay on at school on the dates designated. Your student will need to pack a lunch since he or she must stay on campus and the cafeteria will not be open. There will be two study hall monitors for students awaiting bus transportation.
Health and Safety Update
We continue to monitor any COVID cases that arise in our school community. Please remember to contact the school if your student tests positive for COVID or if he or she has been in close contact (less than 6 feet for more than 15 minutes) of a positive COVID case. We ask for your continued vigilance with following the mitigation efforts promoted by the CDC.
As we enter this week of midterm examinations, I would like to leave you with this prayer that you may share with your student(s) as they prepare for their tests:
My God, enable me to trust in the good outcome of the test I am about to take; help me to contribute my own share of optimism and confidence. With your grace, my God, I hope to crown my efforts with success. My God, be the source of my inspiration in my doubts and uncertainties, supporting me with your blessing. Amen

Attention Students: Pictures Needed for Yearbook |

Senior Baby Pictures Wanted: Thanks to all seniors who have sent in their baby pictures to be included in the yearbook--we've received some great ones so far. If any senior still wishes to submit a baby picture, you still have time! You can email a digital version to Mr. Fournie at jfournie@delonecatholic.org, or you can submit a physical copy. Remember to put your name on the physical copy so we can return it to you as soon as possible.
Adventure Pictures Wanted: Calling all adventurous Squires and Squirettes: the yearbook will be highlighting adventurous activities students and faculty participate in outside of school as part of our theme "Adventure Awaits." If you participate in any adventurous activities outside of school, please send photos to Mr. Fournie at jfournie@delonecatholic.org or Mrs. Gross in the marketing department at lgross@delonecatholic.org.

High School Placement Test Registration |
|
Delone Catholic desires a smooth and strong transition from grade school to high school for every student. To help ensure incoming freshmen are placed in the courses where they can be most successful, we require each student to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT). The test covers English, science and math.
Testing will take place at Delone Catholic HS in the school cafeteria. Arrival time is 8:30-8:45 a.m. Testing begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m. Students are asked to bring #2 pencils and a pen. Cell phones need to powered off and put away during testing. Snacks and drinks will be available during the breaks. Students will be dismissed by 1:15 p.m.
The High School Placement Test is being given on Saturday, January 16, 2021 (snow make-up date: Saturday, January 23, 2021) and Saturday, February 13, 2021 (snow make-up date: Saturday, February 20, 2021)

Placement Test for Algebra II/Trigonmetry |
|
Any incoming freshman student who is currently taking an 8th grade Algebra class with an average of 87 percent or higher is invited to take the Algebra II Trigonometry placement test. If the student passes the test with at least a 75 percent, maintains an average of 87 percent or higher, and is recommended by his/her current teacher, he/she will be eligible to take Algebra II Trigonometry as a freshman when enrolling at Delone Catholic High School. The Algebra II Trigonometry placement test will be given on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 9-10:30 a.m. (snow make-up date is Saturday, March 6, 2021) at Delone Catholic High School. Students should report to the main entrance on S. Oxford Avenue between 8:45 and 8:55 a.m. Students will be given 1 ¼ hour to complete the test and should be picked up by 10:30 a.m. To register for the test, please click here. In this month when we remember respect for life, particularly for the unborn, all of our virtues come from the virtue of RESPECT - the strength to show kindness toward others, recognizing their talents. s. One way many students DIS-respect one another is by speaking poorly of one another, criticizing one another, blaming one another … If we all respect one another we will enjoy our time together so much more. This week, say something kind about someone else and reject the temptation to speak negatively about others.
For Families: This month, make a family resolution to pray for the unborn and a greater respect for life. If you cannot attend the March for Life in person this year, consider participating virtually or participating in some equivalent. To go deeper, consider praying a Novena for Life from Jan. 21-29 with the prayer below. Learn more about saints who embody the virtue of respect: St. Jerome, St. Stephen, St. John the Apostle, and St. Zita of Lucca.
Prayer for Novena for Life: Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of life. We pray that all life will be treated with Love. You are Love. Grant that we may be Your Love in the world and offer Your Love to all life no matter the circumstance. We pray for the March for Life and all those attending. We pray that the government will bend to your will and protect the most vulnerable among us, the child in the womb.
May this event be an inspiration to those who march, to those who see it and to our entire country to respect and protect life. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Important Information for Seniors |

Please read the information below that was sent to senior students and their parents this week.
Seniors,
As we have all experienced, the 2020-21 school year has brought us unprecedented circumstances, and changes and adaptations have had to be made in almost all areas. I am aware of the struggles that many of you are having in earning your Works of Mercy hours in the Delone category because of limited opportunities. After discussion with the Administration, I have decided on the following points. Please read them carefully, and let me know of any questions you have or clarifications that need to be made.
- At present, Seniors will no longer need to earn hours for the Delone category for the 2020-21 school year. Instead, any hours that are owed for the Delone category can be completed in either the Church or Community category (it will be up to the student's choosing).
- If you have Delone hours to turn in, you still may do so.
- If you already have opportunities to earn Delone hours set up, you may continue to earn them if you choose.
- If you owe Church or Community hours, those hours still need to be completed in the appropriate categories.
- For the 2020-21 school year only, the due date for turning in Works of Mercy hours has been extended to the end of the third quarter (Friday, March 19 at 3 p.m.).
- After March 19, any remaining hours will double.
Please remember that the special additional opportunities of earning Works of Mercy hours as Spiritual Growth or Family hours still are options, making it possible for you to earn Works of Mercy hours from home when it is not safe or possible to serve elsewhere. See the Works of Mercy page of the website for more details on these opportunities and ideas of how to complete them.
Please know of my prayers as you enter the Christmas season and the second half of your Senior year.
