Administrator's Corner
Fall sports and clubs are in full swing! On average, students who participate in extracurricular activities have a higher GPA than students who do not participate in extracurricular activities, so we encourage students to get involved in at least one club, sport, or activity throughout the year.
For athletics, TJ runs grades every Monday, and any student- athlete with more than one F will be ineligible to play in a contest for that week (Monday - Saturday). To help support student-athletes, TJ has athletic study hall every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3-4pm in room 122. We encourage any student-athlete to attend!
Animamos a cualquier estudiante-atleta a asistir!

We hope you are settling into your back to school routines. It is an adjustment for all of us! Mark your calendars...the first meeting of the year is
Tuesday, September 10th from 6-7pm at TJHS in room 111. PTO meetings are a great source of information so please make every effort come. Everyone is welcome!
During the September meeting we will review TJ's Year at a Glance to see what to expect for the coming year. Other topics include the roles that need filling. If everyone pitches in and does a little bit, we can accomplish a lot! The sooner we get these roles filled, the sooner we can make a difference. We are looking for parents to serve in the following roles:
- Hospitality Committee members (2)
- ArtFest Chair (1-2)
- Class of 2023 Sponsors (2)
We will also discuss the PTO's fundraising philosophy and how to make the most of our opportunities. We want to work smarter to keep the funds coming that support the valuable work from our classroom teachers. You are an essential part of the Spartan Strong community!
PTO meetings are the
second Tuesday of the month from 6-7pm at TJHS in room 111. Mark your calendars!

Mental Health and Social/Emotional Tips
|
Did You Know...?
Stress is the way your body responds to challenges and gets you ready to face them with attention, energy and strength!
Stress can get you ready for action and motivate you. BUT, problems can arise when your stress level is greater than your ability to apply healthy coping tools. As we make the transition from summer back to academic demands, here are a few things to watch for, and ways to intervene as needed.
Signs of Stress in Teenagers:
- Changes in your child's behavior - eating habits, sleeping habits, often appearing nervous or anxious, decline in academic engagement/achievement, crying, refusing to go to school, wanting to be alone more than usual
- Changes in your child's emotions - increase in being cranky or moody, feeling worthless, struggling to relax or "switch off," feeling that 'nothing is going right,' feeling like they are on an emotional rollercoaster ride, feeling sad/hopeless.
- Changes in physical appearance - feeling sick (headaches, stomach pain, etc.), feeling tired even when getting enough sleep, losing or gaining significant weight, getting frequent colds, panic attacks or becoming dizzy, breathless, and females may experience changes in their menstruation cycle.
- Changes in your child's thinking - struggles with sustained focus/attention, losing thread of thoughts/conversations, memory deficits, becoming confused or irrational, having trouble organizing thoughts or problem solving.
How You Can Help:
- Listen to them - sometimes they are not looking for advice, but just someone to talk to and sort out their thoughts.
- Spend time together - plan activities that make your child feel good.
-
Help them change
any negative, absolute, or all-or-nothing thinking to a different perspective. You can do this by modeling it for them, and helping them change their language.
- Healthy Lifestyle changes:
- Physical activity -cortisol can leave your child feeling tense. Exercise and movement burns off cortisol and helps the body relax
- Stay connected-make sure to have your child stay connected with family and friends; plan an activity they will enjoy when they are feeling stressed. Positive relationships are essential for overall wellbeing and strong mental health.
- Get enough sleep -one of the biggest causes of stress in teenagers is not enough sleep. Your child still needs approximately 9 hours/night.
- Eat good food -aim for a family diet with plenty of fresh veggies, fruits, lean meat, dairy/calcium foods and whole grains
- Relax and unwind -take a walk, read a book, do some adult coloring, journaling, take a relaxing shower/bath, listen to music.
If your child's level of stress is on-going and does not seem to alleviate, we encourage you to reach out to your doctor or school support team to look at additional interventions and resources.

Class of 2022 - Sophomores
|
The class of 2022 needs 2-4 additional parents to join parent
Julie Rubin in planning fundraising events. The class of 2022 has two faculty sponsors,
Jillian Gleason and Maggie Kennedy, but parents are needed to work with the staff to plan fundraising activities. Parent sponsors also plan community building activities for the parents of the class of 2022. Each class is expected to raise money needed to host their Prom, After Prom and other activities senior year. The sooner the fundraiser get started, the more choices there will be for events senior year. The time commitment can be as little or as much you can share.
Your involvement in any capacity is important and appreciated. We are successful because of your behind-the-scenes contributions, large and small. It all adds up to a stronger community. An engaged parent body shows our students that we care about them!

- Stay tuned for more information!
