I hope this finds your family unaffected in anyway from the passing of Hurricane Dorian. While Central Florida was largely spared, our hearts go out to the citizens of the Bahamas. Colonial High School is accepting donations to help those who have lost their homes and all their belongings. Anything you care to contribute through September 16th is deeply appreciated (details of the most needed items listed below).

This issue is going out prior to our distributing Progress Reports for the 1st nine weeks. Herein you will find details on weekday after-school and Saturday tutoring opportunities. If you have a student attending Colonial and they need a little extra help at this point in the quarter, this free tutoring program is a great option. I encourage any of our Grenadiers to seek the help sooner in the school year vs. later as so much of learning is cumulative.

To our Class of 2020, Mr. Thompson has included some very helpful financial aid and college visit information this week. Please take care to note any deadline dates and times.

Best wishes for a productive week ahead and, as always, It's Great To Be A Grenadier!

Dr. Hector Maestre
Principal

Please remember Grenadiers, if you ever see or hear of something suspicious or unusual, say something right away. Thank you for your continued awareness.

Vital Signs
Tardies and lost opportunity

As we start another week of school, please note that bell-to-bell instruction is taking place, so learning starts as soon as you walk in the door!

If you are tardy to class, you are missing out on valuable learning.  We will continue to conduct tardy sweeps as reminders to students that being prompt to class is critical for success! Colonial High School is using HERO to track tardies and dress code infractions. We are also using HERO to track positive behaviors.

AP Biology (above and just below) - "Speed dating as an organelle"
Students are using cheesy pick up lines to review the functions, habits and examples of cell structures by candlelight and aromatic flowers. Ms. Di Salvo was so excited to try this collaborative strategy with her AP Biology class. Each student is also recording this critical information in a graphic organizer.
