50 YEARS OF HOME RULE
Fifty years ago, Floridians voted to amend the state's Constitution to approve Home Rule powers for cities. This power allows each city and town across the Sunshine State to consider, adopt, revise or remove its own laws without having to ask state legislators in Tallahassee for permission. The 50th anniversary is a fitting time to learn more about Home Rule since it allows City of Largo Commission to take actions that are in the best interest of the City and its residents.

At the July 17th City Commission Meeting, Largo Commissioners recognized the 50th Year of Municipal Home Rule in Florida and remain committed to working with the State Legislature and the Governor's Office, on behalf of Largo's residents, to protect Home Rule.

UPCOMING EVENTS AND MEETINGS
MAIDEN LANE NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING
The Engineering Services Director will host a neighborhood meeting for Maiden Lane property owners on July 26th, from 5:30 - 7:00pm, at the Southwest Recreation Center in Room D. Maiden Lane property owners have expressed their willingness to grant an easement to the City for ingress/egress and maintenance of the sanitary sewer line and private roadway. On July 11th, a sample temporary easement agreement was sent to the property owners for review. The intent of the meeting is to answer questions and provide the property owners with executable temporary easement documents and notary services. The temporary easement will allow for repairing any problems with the existing sanitary sewer line, regrading the unpaved road and conducting a land survey to determine the location of the road and sewer line in relation to each property line. Once the formal land survey is complete, the City will have sufficient information to more concisely determine the size and configuration of a permanent easement, which will be established at a later date.
