Thank You for Sharing Your Holiday Spirit to Be the Light

We have had such a wonderful start to our Holiday Annual Giving, from the generosity shown on Giving Tuesday to the gifts given during the 12 Days of Christmas Challenge, we have received 150 gifts of support. We also unlocked a bonus gift of $5,000 to add to the Stallion Way Fund.

2020 is almost over! For all the challenges we’ve faced, there’s still time to make an act of kindness to help your favorite non-profit organization. While we hope that you’ll consider supporting our students with your generosity, we also know there are many great places that need our help.

When you give, please know that this year there are tools in place that make it more beneficial for you, the donor! One tool is the CARES Act. The CARES Act for Nonprofits – The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law in March. In doing so, Congress acknowledged that the work of nonprofits are essential services. It is the first time Congress has passed this type of giving incentive in response to disaster or national emergency.

For 2020 tax filings, up to $300 can now be an “above the line” adjustment to income. Even if you don’t itemize for your taxes, a donation up to $300 will reduce your taxable income this year. As part of these changes, the CARES Act is allowing a 100% deduction allowance for cash gifts to charities for the entire 2020 tax year, up to your adjusted gross income. Previously, the allowance has been 60% of adjusted gross income.

How can I give? Gifts of cash are simple and quick but many are finding that appreciated securities can be a great way to support and not impact your cash flow. Because such a gift takes a little longer to fulfill, donors are encouraged to not wait until too late in the year.

For more information: Please follow this link and consult your tax professional. These deductions are set to expire December 31, 2020.
