I hope this finds your family unaffected in anyway from the passing of Hurricane Dorian. While Central Florida was largely spared, our hearts go out to the citizens of the Bahamas. Below you will find information on how you can help those in need through several charities. Thank you so much for anything you might be able to contribute.

We will be distributing Progress Reports for the 1st nine weeks on Monday, September 16th. In this issue you will find details on our after-school tutoring opportunities which are now available four days a week. If you have a student attending Lake Nona Middle and they need a little extra help at this point in the quarter, this free tutoring program is a great option. I encourage any of our Knights to seek the help sooner in the school year vs. later as so much of learning is cumulative.

Have a terrific week and don't forget to come on out Wednesday, September 11th as our Knight soccer teams compete against the Panthers of Freedom Middle on our home field. Go Knights!

With Knight Pride,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal
Lake Nona Middle School

Remember Knights, if you ever see or hear of something suspicious or unusual, please say something right away!

Hurricane Recovery
Thank you very much for your kindness in helping those families that have lost so much to the storm.

Now that Hurricane Dorian has passed and the devastation in the Bahamas has become clear, many people in our communities want to know how to help with their recovery. You can help with financial contributions through any of the philanthropic funds listed in the attached flyer.

Employees, parents and students can also donate through the Heart of Florida United Way using this link: https://www.hfuw.org/hurricanerecovery/

Knight Rigor in the Classroom
Physical Science Lab with Dr. Smouse and Mr. Menard

The ability to describe motion is the basis of much of physics. Acceleration is different than speed. In physics there are a few interesting experiments to measure acceleration. By combining these practical techniques with a simple equation involving the speed of an object moving and the time it takes that object to travel a specified distance, acceleration can be calculated. In Dr. Smouse's and Mr. Menard's physical sciences classes last week, students were measuring and calculating the speed and acceleration of toy cars.

Wednesday Enrichment and After School Tutoring

Knight Tutoring

Due to the two days lost this past week, students will be able to turn in missing work through next Wednesday. We will have school-wide tutoring next Wednesday and we want to give all students an opportunity to start the 2nd half of the quarter on a positive note, especially for those utilizing this option of tutoring. Any assignments not submitted by Friday, September 6, 2019 may not be reflected in their progress report grade as teachers will need time to grade missing work after processing progress reports.

Below is the link for school-wide Wednesday tutoring. It will be on our school website and we have encouraged all teachers to post on their Canvas pages. Tutoring will be school-wide from 3:05-4:05pm and open to any student who registers through the Google link only.

Monday's Motivational Moment!

EMERSON ON REAL SUCCESS

To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children,
to earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others,
to leave the world a bit better
whether by a healthy child, a garden patch,
or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier
because you lived.
That is to have succeeded.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
