A Road Map to College Golf

The College Golf Road Map, now in its second edition from The First Tee home office s taff, contains useful information for participants who are interested in  playing college golf, and their parents as well.

There are more than 12,000 men and 7,000 women  playing college golf today, and a small number of them receive partial to full scholarships  while in school. Those figures represent only about 8 percent of male or female high school  golfers who successfully compete at the college level, so the road is narrow.

The process to do so, therefore, is a long and difficult one, and requires much advance
preparation, training, and playing in competition from a young age. Priority is placed on 18-hole  multiple round tournaments with large fields, and placement within the final field is a key factor in  a coach's decision to look at a candidate for scholarship or selection on a team.

Registration Open for 2018 Metro Tour &
Summer Session

Metro Tour 2017 Greenspring Valley
The annual  Metro Tour  will run from June 24 through August 26 at golf courses around the metro area. This event provide opportunities for Par, Birdie, Eagle and Ace level students from The First Tee chapters in the Baltimore/DC region to participate in competitive tournaments at different golf courses during the summer. Some events are for girls only, while other events are restricted by level. Registration is now  open online , and includes a $20 Metro Tour membership and $10 fee per event.

Additionally, registration for our summer and fall sessions is still open on our website. Summer session kicks off on July 6, which is right around the corner!

Local Elementary Students Play in 8th Annual Champions Challenge

On April 23, April 30 and May 7, fourth graders from Howard County public schools who participate in The First Tee's    National School Program   came out to Fairway Hills for the 8th Annual Champions Challenge. This fun community event is designed to give 10 students each from 12 participating schools a chance to drive, putt, chip and experience how those life and golf skills they have been learning in physical education classes translate on the greens.

This year's participating elementary schools were:
  • Bollman Bridge
  • Bryant Woods
  • Clarksville
  • Guilford
  • Hammond
  • Jeffers Hill
