STEM BEST Application Opens Early June

A total of 37 STEM BEST® models have been established across Iowa.  These models entail school and business partnerships that create work-based learning experiences where students can apply science, technology, engineering and mathematics to gain real-world workplace exposure.

Overarching guidelines are provided to assist proposers, though ample flexibility in design is encouraged to support organic development of STEM BEST® programs which match local strengths, challenges and resources. STEM BEST® models are open to K-12 applicants. Grant funding is up to $25,000.

Further details on these awarded programs can be found at  http://www.IowaSTEM.gov/STEMBEST .  Resources and supporting documents are available at  http://www.IowaSTEM.gov/STEMBEST/application.

Please feel free to contact our office with any questions on getting started.  Application materials can be found online and the application portal will open early June.

Message from NC Regional Manager Kelly Bergman

I want to take a moment to reflect on my time as the North Central Regional Manager of the Governor's STEM Advisory Council. My primary responsibility has been to provide educators and community members with STEM resources and program information. I want to thank everyone who has reached out to me in the past few months to make introductions and develop partnerships. If anyone reading this feels like we should be talking, please don't hesitate to give me a quick call or drop me a note.

I want to recognize the contributions of Carol Tierney who works here in the Hub office with me. She is an unending source of information and has provided valuable knowledge on our region's STEM activities and history. Thank you also to our 15 Board Members who represent the interests of education and communities across the region.

I am thrilled that we were able to award exemplary STEM Scale-Up programs to 81 institutions. We will be reaching over 11,000 students and providing professional development to over 200 educators. I want all members of the community to know that my door is always open for questions or suggestions on how to make our programming more effective.  Hope everyone has a wonderful summer!
