Rev. Jim Knappenberger is scheduled for surgery on Thursday, July 12, at St. Lukes Fountain Hill Campus.  He is finished with the chemo & the tumor in his esophagus is eradicated - tumor is nonexistent!   PET scan two weeks ago showed there is no new cancer.  Drs were very happy about this.  He will have the top of his stomach and his entire esophagus removed.  What is left of the stomach will be constructed into a new esophagus.  He will spend 10-14 days in the hospital.  On day five after the operation, his new esophagus will be tested to see if it is functioning correctly.  If there are no leaks, liquids will be introduced and by the end of his hospital stay, soft foods. He will have a feeding tube for 6 weeks because he will not have a enough nutrients by mouth.  After his hospital stay, he will be going home.  He is living on prayers.  Please pray for his surgeons and those in charge of his care.

Children's Sermon
for July 15(based on Mark 6:14-29)
Items needed: piece of poster board, easel to hold paper, yardstick, marker.  Beforehand, put paper on easel and use yardstick to  make a mark at the top and the bottom of paper.  Show kids the paper and the two marks.   What if I wanted to draw a straight line,  between these two marks, using this yardstick? But what if I start out, at the bottom, with the yardstick, being a little off the mark? (Hold yardstick on bottom mark, but   askew from the top mark)  See what happens-starting a little off, at the bottom, the line gets further and further away from my "target," the top mark. This is what happens in our Bible reading today- a man named Herod moves  further and further away from doing what is right.  He even gets so far away from what's right,  that he kills John the Baptist!  We need to keep asking God for help to know what is right, and the courage to do it.
- Rev. David Quinn
