Spend the school holidays in Cumberland

Cumberland Council is the place to be these school holidays with a range of free and affordable activities available  for kids 5 - 18  years  old.  Many activities require booking prior to the event, with separate activities for under 12-year-olds and 12 to 18-year-olds. Activities available including girls only dance workshops, skateboarding workshops, Blue Mountains outings, music production and drawing classes. 

Some other key activities include:
  • Central Gardens in Merrylands will be transformed into a 'Winter Wonderland', with free activities for kids aged 0-13 years from 10am-3pm, Friday 13 July.
  • Cumberland Council libraries will be bringing the Big Friendly Giant, James and the Giant Peach and other classic stories to life with free Roald Dahl inspired activities.

Cumberland residents enjoy arts activities in the school holidays.
Guildford Park receives $1.7 million upgrade

Cumberland Council has invested $1.7 million in upgrades at Guildford Park, making the amenities block more accessible for users of and visitors to the park.  The project involved the demolition of the previous amenities building and rebuild of a brand new amenities block which  includes change rooms, store rooms, an office space, male and female accessible toilets, and a kiosk.

Mayor Greg Cummings said "We are fortunate in Cumberland to have so many great playing fields where such a variety of different sports are played.  Council is committed to providing modern facilities that benefit the entire community  to match our great passion and sporting ability."

Cumberland swim schools now $100 easier

Cumberland Council swim schools are one of the latest services to be registered as a provider of the NSW Government Active Kids program and Mayor Greg Cummings is encouraging parents to redeem their $100 vouchers at Learn to Swim classes which are available all year long.

Cumberland Council has three pools open during the winter months - Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre in Lidcombe, Granville Swim Centre and Guildford Swim Centre. Both Auburn and Guildford offer indoor pools heated to a balmy 28 degrees.
 
Cumberland pools are still open during winter and are a great opportunity to get swimming skills ready for summer.
Cumberland Council signs up to Plastic Free July

In the lead up to Plastic Free July, supermarket giants Coles and Woolworths abolished single-use plastic bags. And now staff at Cumberland Council are being encouraged to #ChooseToRefuse single-use plastics too.

Acting General Manager Brooke Endycott said Council is working towards a cleaner, greener Cumberland and the community are invited to join staff in having a Plastic Free July.

Making small changes such as bringing a re-usable cup to get coffee can make a large difference.

Community Engagement Strategy

Residents are invited to have their say and help shape Cumberland Council's first official Community Engagement Strategy.
 
Three community workshops will be held in Merrylands, Auburn and Pemulwuy between Monday 16 July and Saturday 21 July. Child minding services are available on request.

Local Government Week 

To celebrate Local Government Week, Council will be hosting Meet Your Councillor
 forums in each Ward as an opportunity for residents to meet with their representatives face-to-face. These events will provide a forum for Councillors to find out what the local community wants and also for the community to ask questions to Councillors directly.

The events will be held on Saturday 4 August from 10am - 12pm at Allan Ezzy Community Centre, Pemulwuy; Redgum Centre, Wentworthville; Granville Town Hall; Progress Park Sports and Community Centre, South Granville; and Berala Community Centre, Regents Park. 
Cherry Blossom Festival

The annual Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival will be held again from Friday 17 August - Sunday 26 August 2018 at the Auburn Botanic Gardens. Tickets are now on sale for Australia's premier celebration of Japanese culture and cuisine and NSW's largest flower festival.

Peacock Gallery art exhibitions

The Peacock Gallery and Auburn Arts Studio are hosting two exhibitions located in the Auburn Botanic Gardens.

'In flight' by Lisa Woolfe and 'Makes Sense Together' by Hayley Megan French and Carla Liesch are on exhibition from  7 July until 2 September from Tuesday to Sunday, 11am - 4pm.


Paintings and Craft Exhibition 

The Holroyd Art and Craft Society is hosting an exhibition and sale of handmade works, including paintings,  knitting, crochet, cards, jewellery, sewing, pottery, jams and marmalade.
