SFL Convention October 24 to 27

The annual convention of the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour will be held in Regina at the Queensbury Centre from October 24 to 27, 2018. This year's convention is a milestone as SFL President Larry Hubich (and GSU member) will be retiring after 16 years at the helm of the labour movement in Saskatchewan. The convention will elect Brother Hubich's successor and it is important for GSU to participate in this historic event.

If you want to be a GSU delegate to the 2018 SFL convention (wage loss and expenses will be covered by GSU), please submit your expression of interest to GSU by email on or before September 20, 2018.  Learn more about convention  here

Well with that amazing win over Calgary this past weekend it is time to start thinking about the Labour Day Classic against Winnipeg. The Labour Day Classic and the adjoining Banjo Bowl have become the most sought after football tickets after playoff games.  

So to get your hands on 2 tickets to the Riders Labour Day game on September 2, 2018 just email in your answer to the question below by 9:00 am on August 28.

A GSU member called in asking about personal protective equipment at work and where they could find it. The member could not find the equipment they needed and wanted to know if they had to wear it the equipment. 

Safety is the first priority at work and it should be everyone's first focus. The member was advised to immediately talk to their supervisor to get the protective equipment they are required to use at work and to wear . Even though it is an employers responsibility to provide a safe workplace GSU members and all employees must take it upon themselves to ensure they, and their co-workers, are safe at work. 

If you have any questions, concerns or are feeling unsafe at work you must act immediately. Stop all unsafe work and talk to your safety coordinator or Occupational Health and Safety representatives to address the issue. And don't hesitate to call your GSU staff rep. for assistance or advice on health and safety matters. We are here to help.




  
How to Deal With Jerks 

If the words, "Life is too short to work with jerks" have never come out of your mouth, then you either have a very short memory or you're just not being honest with yourself. Nobody likes to work with jerks. I didn't either, until I realized I was one.

Wait...what?

Look at it this way: The workplace is a diverse melting pot of personalities, personal baggage, and different perspectives. Besides, everyone reacts differently to the pressures, stresses and uncertainty of modern competitive markets.
