Cornerstone Kids Need Supplies
As the new school year approaches, your generous support is requested for the children at Cornerstone Kids. The goal is to raise $1,500 to cover the cost of backpacks and school supplies for 35 children.

Please put your check, made out to St. John's, in the alms basin or drop it off in the parish offices by Sunday, August 26.  Contact MC Jenkins with questions at BucsJenkins@aol.com.
News from the DR: Tampa Deanery Project
This year's Tampa Deanery Project saw the not-quite completion of San Timoteo Church in Nizao (we'll be going back next year to complete the second story and help with a community garden-farm). Teams II and III were able to participate in the consecration of the mission on June 30 , the first for the new Bishop of the Dominican Republic, Moises Quezada Mota.

In addition to this year's St. John's representatives on Team II, Carol Ihrig and Sally Thompson, past participants were recognized by Bishop Moises at the Consecration.  From St. John's, they included: Henry Woodroffe, David Webster, Dottie Towne Webster, Robin Adair, and Bill Hardy.

The Tampa Deanery Project has expanded to include members of other parishes outside of the Deanery. This year, the Rev. Janice Tunnell participated with members of her parish, All Saints in Tarpon Springs. A group of parishioners from St. James in Farmington, CT, lead Vacation Bible School classes at Colegio San Matías in Santana and assisted in the construction of the church furniture. This mammoth effort to meet the June 30  consecration date, included building twelve long church pews, two celebrant's chairs, a bishop's chair, a baptismal font, and a lectern. Because of wet weather, the large pine boards had to be turned every few minutes to dry in the sunlight during the week. Final staining and varnishing will be delayed until dryer weather. Painting was completed on the interior and exterior of the church by Teams I and II.

The support of St. John's over the past 20 years has helped to make these efforts successful and further God's work in our Companion Diocese in the Dominican Republic. Thank you.

Sally Thompson

Pardon our Dust/Darkness!
As we continue our two major maintenance projects this summer, replacing the old, antiquated and heat-producing lighting in the church with modern and efficient LED lights, and updating the HVAC system in Brickman Hall, please continue to remain flexible this Sunday morning.  Our LED lighting contractor is working directly with the manufacturer to ensure the final product will both highlight the architectural beauty inside our historic church building, as well as provide a lasting and efficient light source for the years to come.  It may seem like a lengthy process, but it is one that will certainly pay off in the end!

Sunday's Scripture Snippet

I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities for the sake of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12
Hospital Visitation

We want to provide support during your time of need! However, because health regulations prohibit the clergy from being informed when our parishioners are in the hospital, we will not know if you or someone you love is there unless you tell us. We want to provide support in any time of need or crisis. Please call the parish offices at 259.1570 or  click here to email us to let us know when you need us.
