General Announcements

Linda Howard will be filling in for Karen Reilly for the next three weeks while Karen is out of the office.  Linda's hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Friday mornings as needed.  A volunteer will open the office on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Karen will be back in the office on Tuesday, August 14.  

Getting ready for our Watermelon Socia l -  July 29: Please COME! Please BRING friends, children, a CANOPY TENT if you have one, an OUTDOOR GAME if you have one, a WATERMELON DISH if you can. Recipes are in Atrium. Lunch starts at 11:30, with various kinds of watermelon dishes, plus hot dogs, cold drinks, and ice cream for everyone.. Games and Races on the back lawn. Please sign up to help set up at 9 am July 29, or to join the kitchen crew at 11:10 to serve the food. We need to know if you can help, so please contact [email protected].

A memorial for  Gini Huebne r will be held on  Saturday, July 21 from  4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Huebner's  Hidden Hills Farm,  5303 East Hyatt Road,  Ijamsville.

Classes and Events

July Full Moon Labyrinth Walk with Releasing Fire: Friday, July 27, 8:30 p.m. (Labyrinth).  Come enjoy the beauty and peace of the Labyrinth by the light of the full moon! Please be sure to arrive by 9:00 p.m. at the latest. Everyone is welcome. Weather permitting, this will be an outdoor, drumming walk. The first half hour will be a quiet walk, the remainder drumming, so feel free to bring hand drums and other percussion instruments. Divination practice is welcome - you are welcome to bring your preferred divinatory tool or just stop by for a reading.

Daytime Meditation Group: Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. in room 115, facilitated by Alice MacDonald ( [email protected] , 240.815.5406). We will begin with 45 minutes of silent meditation, and everyone is welcome to meditate for less time (5 minutes) and then quietly slip out of the room! All are welcome, beginners to long-time meditators. 

Feldenkrais at UUCF: Spring Session ongoing on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. (Chapel) led by UUCF member, Katie Giarth. Guided attention and gentle movement with an emphasis on sensory learning. UU Buddhist Meditation Group:Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m.(Chapel) The group explores a variety of Buddhist teachings, with a 30-40 minute meditation. All are welcome; no experience necessary! Social Action Committee

Forum on Solitary Confinement in Maryland: Tuesday, July 24, 7 pm, Friends Meeting House, 723 N Market St.

The Forum, moderated by Rabbi Charles Feinberg, Executive Director of Interfaith Action for Human Rights, hosts a panel including Julie Magers, leader of the Maryland Prisoners' Rights Coalition; Wendell France, who has a background in law enforcement and corrections; and Marcus Lilly, a member of the Maryland Prisoners' Rights Coaltion.
