Petition drive for transportation referendum gets rolling
There is an active petition drive to place a 1-cent sales tax referendum for transportation improvements on the November 2018 Hillsborough countywide ballot. The effort is led by a group called All for Transportation, but it will not make the ballot unless 49,000 signatures from across Hillsborough County are collected. If the petition drive is successful, voters will vote on a charter amendment to increase the sales tax for 30 years, starting in 2019, for road and transit projects. Road and pedestrian projects would receive 54 percent of funds, transit projects would receive 45 percent, and 1 percent would be allocated for planning and oversight. For more information, and to sign a petition, visit AllForTransportation.com.
