SN-ICC MEMBERS OK FISCAL 2018/2019 BUDGET;
HIGHER SPENDING FOR EDUCATION, OUTREACH
SN-ICC members at the
Chapter Meeting in June voted unanimously to approve the chapter's proposed budget for fiscal 2018/2019, following an informative presentation by Secretary/Treasurer Kevin McOsker.
The budget includes increased spending to provide more services to chapter members and the community.
McOsker explained the budget was developed by the board of directors, after receiving input from the chapter's committees, in particular, the Asset and Finance Committee.
The budget anticipates annual revenues of $730,800, primarily from the chapter's annual EduCode conference and expo, and expenses of $980,350. The board accepted the Asset and Finance Committee recommendation to spend down about $250,000 of the chapter's $1.1 million financial assets.
Highlights of the budget include:
- $10,000 for a new program, "Workforce Development," to address the labor shortage in the building industry;
- $20,000 for membership events, such as SN-ICC Night at the 51s and the mixer at the Mob Museum, up from $7,500 last fiscal year;
- $44,050 for education programs, a significant increase in spending compared with $6,000 in the previous budget;
- $35,000 for student scholarships, compared with $25,000 for fiscal 2017/2018;
- $29,500 for the Toddler Swim Lessons Grant Program, up from $25,750 last fiscal year;
- $20,000 for HomeAid Southern Nevada, which builds and rehabs shelter for homeless adults and children in the community, up from $10,000 last fiscal year;
- $50,000 for the UNLV/UNR Southern Nevada Fault Study to examine local seismic activity, which is prevalent in this area. The chapter has pledged $250,000 over a five year period;
- The roster of charities was expanded to include
Construction vs Cancer, an annual fundraising event of the local chapter of the American Cancer Society and building industry, set for
February 9, 2019 at the Silverton Hotel.
In total, the chapter's public outreach budget rose from $188,200 last fiscal year to $204,750 this fiscal year. Public outreach was a key component of the chapter's Strategic Plan adopted in 2015.

CHAPTER MEMBERS ENJOY 51s EVENT
About 50 members, their family and friends enjoyed the special "SN-ICC Night at the 51s" baseball game in June. Attendees had excellent seats in the stadium and their own section in the enclosed, air conditioned Club Level Restaurant overlooking home plate.
Attendees received two complimentary drink tickets and food. The menu included hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, baked beans, chips and cookies.
SN-ICC salutes its Membership Committee, chaired by 2nd Vice President Jim Gerren of Clark County, for their hard work putting together this outstanding event for the members.

2018 CODE ADOPTION APPROACHING
The Southern Nevada Building Officials and the Southern Nevada Fire Chiefs have completed their review of the 2018 codes and have proposed local amendments.
The organizations conducted Industry Meetings on May 29 at Clark County Development Services Center and June 4 at the City of Las Vegas Development Services Center to receive input regarding the adoption of the codes and local amendments.
The jurisdictions of Clark County, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City are expected to adopt the 2018 codes in August. The new codes will be effective February 4, 2019.
SN-ICC salutes the members of its Code Development Committee for their hard work and efforts during this process.

CLASSES TO ASSIST WITH CODE TRANSITION
SN-ICC is assisting local building professionals as they prepare for the transition to the 2018 codes.
The chapter and the International Code Council Learning Center are offering two classes, "
2018 IRC Transition from the 2012 IRC" and "
2018 IBC Transition from the 2012 IBC," on
July 25 and
July 26.
Seating for these classes is limited, and the seats are filling fast.

The Southern Nevada chapters of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials will host their 22nd annual ASPE/IAPMO Scholarship Golf Tournament on Friday, September 14 at the Revere Golf Club in Henderson. SN-ICC member Nat Hodgson has enjoyed a long and distinquished career in the building industry.
Since 2012, he's served as executive director and CEO of the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association.
He is also the executive director of SNHBA's HomeAid Southern Nevada chapter. Under his leadership, the chapter has built or renovated more than 200,000 square feet of shelter to benefit more than 3,000 homeless adults and children in the local community. SN-ICC is a major supporter of HomeAid Southern Nevada.
Hodgson has been active in SNHBA affairs since he joined the association in 1998 when he was an executive with Pulte Homes.
He served on the SNHBA board of directors and executive committee from 2003 until 2012. He was the association's president in 2010. Hodgson served as a member or a chairman of several major SNHBA committees, including codes, energy conservation, utilities and offsites, quality assurance, community planning and development, legislative and green building.
He received the "Builder Member of the Year" award in 2006 for his outstanding service to the association and industry.
Earlier this year, the Nevada Subcontractors Association presented Hodgson with the "
Advocate of the Year" award.
SN-ICC named him "
2013 Industry Person of the Year" for his outstanding work on local code issues. SN-ICC presented him with a "
President's Award of Excellence" in 2010 in recognition of his outstanding work on local adoption of the International Energy Conservation Code.
He was instrumental in the formation in the mid-2000s of the Southern Nevada Green Building Partnership, a joint program of SNHBA and the Green Building Initiative of Portland, Ore. Pulte Homes was the first major builder to enroll in the program and produce verifiable, certified green homes. The City of Las Vegas adopted the program as the residential component of its Green Building Program.
He served four years on the Nevada State Contractors Board following his appointment by then-Gov. Jim Gibbons in 2008 and reappointment by Gov. Brian Sandoval in 2010.
A native of Maryland, Hodgson served in the Marine Corps in the 1980s, rising from a hydraulic mechanic to crew chief. He worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co., for nearly six years, starting as a quality assurance inspector and earning promotions to director of quality assurance. He was responsible for the inspection process of the MD-80 and MD-11 Tri-jet assembly lines.
Pulte Homes hired him as a superintendent in Las Vegas in 1993. Over the years, he rose to vice president of construction and customer service. He left Pulte in May 2011 to pursue other endeavors in the building industry. During his tenure, Pulte Homes and its Communities of Del Webb in Las Vegas received numerous top awards, including prestigious J.D. Power and Associates New Home Builder Customer Satisfaction studies seven years in a row.
In his spare time, Hodgson enjoys spending time with his family and close friends - especially engaged in outdoor activities.
