Shelter and Clinic News

We have been extremely busy with kitten adoptions, which is wonderful.  We had 24 kittens adopted in June and 7 in July already.  For those of you who want to take home a little one, there are still lots of kittens, both in the shelter and in foster care.

Our cats, staff, and volunteers will soon enjoy a brand new air conditioning system!  Everyone pitched in to make sure the cats are safe and comfortable in this hot weather with alternative cooling until our new system is installed.

Kit Kat was adopted recently at the age of 17, and after spending two years at the shelter.  Congratulations,
Kit Kat!

The clinic had an unusual case recently.   Dusty is a 10 week old kitten who came into CCS not being able to see.  He had a congenital problem, known as entropion, where the eyelashes on both his lower eyelids rolled inward and scratched his cornea with every blink.  The condition was so painful that he held his eyes tightly shut nearly all the time. To free him of this pain, we performed a delicate surgery to remove a 3mm horizontal band of skin under each eyelid.  By sewing those skin edges together, we created enough tension to roll the eyelashes away from the eye so they could assume a normal outward orientation.   Dusty did very well under anesthesia with our new comprehensive PetMap anesthesia monitor, that can read vital signs and EKGs on the tiniest and most vulnerable patients.

Two hours later, Dusty was holding his eyes open and playing like the curious kitten he is.  While he may need an additional similar surgery in the future to compensate for changes as he grows, he now has a bright, pain-free future.

Opt to Adopt Laila Bee

Meet Laila Bee.  She is 6 years old and came from a hoarding situation in which the owner had over 60 cats. Laila Bee is healthy but does have asthma and requires an inhaler. This qualifies her for our Perpet-U-Care program. She's a little shy at first but warms up to you really quickly. Laila Bee loves to cuddle with humans and cats, and would love a home where there's another kitty or two in the house with her.

Under our Perpet-u-Care program $250 of her yearly vet expenses at the Cat Clinic will be covered by CCS. Click the link to learn more about this program: http://www.catcaresociety.org/adoptions/perpet-u-care

You can read more about Laila Bee on her Adopt-a-Pet page:
