As part of the 50th Anniversary of the BSU , Luther alumna Maxie (Jones) Rockymore '82, is serving as the keynote speaker for the annual Don Kemp Memorial Lecture at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in Baker Commons. The lecture, held in memorial of Luther's former social work program director Don Kemp.

Discussing the benefits of a liberal arts education, Spruiell White, Luther class of 1967, will give the address at this year's induction ceremony for new members of the Luther College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. White will present a lecture at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 28 in the Noble Recital Hall, Jenson Noble Hall of Music.

In collaboration with the Des Moines Symphony, the Luther College Nordic Choir will perform Leonard Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms" during the Masterworks 6: Simon Sings Porgy and Bess concert. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at the Des Moines Civic Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Ticket information is available at https://dmsymphony.org/ .

Are you tired of political polarization? Would you like to learn how to better communicate across the political divide? Founded after the 2016 election,  Better Angels  is an organization aimed at promoting understanding across party lines. We are looking for seven “red leaning” and seven “blue leaning” students to join Prof. Michael Engelhardt and the CEPE for a Better Angels “Red-Blue Dialogue,” 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Come and learn how to elevate our civil discourse.  RSVP here.

Car Wash for a Cause -  To raise money for the Decorah Community Free Medical Clinic at First Lutheran Church, the Men’s Soccer team will be running a $10 car wash on April 27 starting at 3 p.m. at Pulpit Rock Brewing Co. Proceeds will allow the Clinic to offer more free medicine, x-rays and tests, and medical advice to uninsured and under-insured individuals. The Clinic is employed by medical volunteers and has been operating since 2002.

Join in the  capstone events  of the yearlong BSU 50th celebration April 25-28 including the opening reception at Baker Commons Friday evening, an Alumni panel discussion Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Valders 206, and the symposium of student research presentations Saturday at 2:30-3:30 p.m. also in Valders 206 featuring Janet Irankunda '19 (Music), Fadzai Teramayi '19 (Biology), Hawi Nyiera '20 (Chemistry), Darnelle Lyng '20 (History), Asha Aden '20 (Political Science and Religion), and Siyabonga Mabuza '22 (Management/Econ).

50th Reunion- Black Student Union Book Signing — Welcome back W.D. Foster Graham '74 from 2:00pm-3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26 in the Book Shop. Chat with Graham about Luther in the 70's and purchase a signed copy of one of his books.

Featuring the oratorio "Jepthe," the Luther College Collegium Musicum will present a concert at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, in the Noble Recital Hall, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

Student Life Committee on Senate is conducting a survey in order to find out the number of students* that need storage for the summer. Please fill out this form as best as you can before noon April 20. Later submissions will not be considered. *Please note that this survey is only intended for International Students and students who live outside the 600 mile radius of Luther College.

The Dorian Choral Retreat , now in its second year, will be hosted this summer at Luther June 28-30. This event is available to all who are interested and at least 19 years of age. There is a fee of $125 with no on-campus housing over the course of the retreat, or $175 for a single, air-conditioned room Friday and Saturday night on campus. A $10 discount is offered to people who are coming with a roommate. Click here to register.
