Bringing People & Opportunities Together
National Dislocated Worker Grant
Job Creation & Fire Recovery
The Woolsey and Hill Fires destroyed almost 100,000 acres in Ventura and Los Angeles counties, including many beautiful recreational areas such as parks, campgrounds, and trails. The Department of Labor has provided an emergency grant to create an opportunity for training and temporary jobs for “dislocated workers” in Ventura County. Laura Kistner, Sr. Director of Workforce Services and Alex Renteria, Workforce Services Manager both from Goodwill Industries of Ventura and Santa Barbara joined Patrick Newburn, Workforce Development Board Administration Manager and KVTA host Tom Spence to talk about job opportunities in the “NDWG” program.

Congressman Carbajal Visits the Oxnard AJCC
The America’s Job Center of California (AJCC) in Oxnard welcomed Congressman Salud Carbajal for a visit on March 18th. The Congressman took part in informal discussions with Center partners who provide services to both job seekers and employers. “Employers need workers with the necessary skills (or who are trainable) to tackle increasingly complex jobs while job seekers want careers that are fulfilling and provide a living wage. The AJCC’s in Ventura County are making excellent use of available grant monies to connect employers with qualified job seekers and to help hard-to-employ workers with the leg-up they need,” says Congressman Carbajal.
