- Whitefish Bay Public Library - Humans Vs Zombies 11:00am Grades 7+. Sign up as a zombie or a human and play with us in Schoolhouse Park (across from the library). The humans will search for a cure hidden nearby and defend themselves while the zombies will attempt to turn humans. Zombie makeup and water balloons will be supplied. Stay for pizza afterwards. Register for this event.

Leash Law Reminder
With the good weather upon us, dog owners will begin taking advantage of warmer temperatures to enjoy longer walks with their four-legged companions.
This is also a good time to remind residents that there is a leash law in the Village of Whitefish Bay. Section 15.11(B)(7) of the Municipal Code requires owners to keep their dog on a leash (6 feet or less in length) whenever the dog is off the owner's property.
By complying with the leash law, we can all help to ensure the safety of our pets as well as the safety of other animals and people.

Village Hall and Police Department operations will be shared with DPW at their location at 155 W Fairmount Ave at Lydell until Fall 2018. Customer Service Window hours are 8:00am-4:30pm Monday - Friday.
Yard Waste Pickup
Yard Waste Pickup has begun. All yard waste must be containerized, which means in paper yard waste bags OR reusable hard plastic cans or carts (please leave lid off so collectors know it is not refuse).
No grass clippings are allowed in Yard Waste, Refuse or Recycling, per the DNR, due to toxicity. Ordinance 10.04(3)(d)
The clippings, when left in place after cutting the grass, will provide a ready source of fertilizer while helping the soil retain water which promotes root growth and a healthy lawn. The simple practice of leaving clippings on the lawn after mowing is called "grasscycling".
Yard waste containers - must weigh 50 pounds or less, and be paper bags or hard plastic containers - no plastic bags.
Per Whitefish Bay Ordinance 7.02(1), no yard waste or clippings should ever be placed outside of private property, such as on the street, gutter or near sewer drains. Please advise any lawn care provider that blowing or brushing waste into the street is a ticketable offense. Lawn care providers often blow waste into the street or other property. This is against Village Ordinance. Mulching mowers and redistributed grass clippings are recommended.

e Inventory is Underway:
Continuing for the next six to eight weeks,
Wachtel Tree Science will be conducting a complete street tree inventory on all of the approximately 8,600 street trees throughout the entire Village. There will be two Wachtel employees inspecting/inventorying our street trees during this time period. They will both have reflective safety vests on and will be driving company vehicles with the Wachtel Tree Science and Service logos on them.
Fire Hydrant Painting: Paint the Town Red
Village-wide fire hydrant painting continues.
Giant Maintenance and Restoration, Inc., will be blasting, primin
g, and top-coat painting all Village fire hydrants listed as requiring restoration. The blasting process will implement an environmentally friendly abrasive made from coal com
bustio
n by-product.
GIANT will utilize this "green" abrasive blasting for optimal bonding of the prime paint coat. One coating of the prim
er material is applied
within 30 minutes of abrasive blasting. Within 24 to 48 hours after the primer is applied, one spray top coat is applied and followed up with a second finished coat as needed.

As part of the Village of Shorewood work on Wilson Drive, the Village of Whitefish Bay is working with the Village of Shorewood to close N. Hollywood avenue at the point of intersection with N. Wilson Drive.

Emerald Ash Borer Update: Tree Replacement and Ash Tree Treatment
- The tree replacement project is under way. Approximately 130 trees will be planted and is anticipated to take approximately 2 to 3 weeks to complete.
- Ash tree treatment is under way. Approximately 850 ash trees will be treated throughout the village. Project completion is anticipate to be mid to late August.

Hydrant Flushing Continues!
The upcoming area that will be flushed includes Silver Spring Drive heading south, Santa Monica Boulevard heading east all the way up to and including Lake Dive and to the south village limits. Flushing will begin in the northwestern part of that area, heading in a southeastern direction. Completion of the flushing project
should
occur in
mid
-July. Portable signs will be posted in the general area where the flushing is occurring. Residents may notice cloudy water at times and may experience low water pressure. If cloudy water occurs please run
your
water for a period of time until the water clears; this is only a temporary condition if it occurs.

2018 Sidewalk Improvement Program
The mission of the Program is to sustain infrastructure longevity and improve safety. The Program will run from March to September, 2018, and will cover sidewalk in the southwest area of the Village. There is no charge to residents for this work.
Schedule:

June - September: Sidewalk Improvement
As in the past, the 2018 Project will involve the replacement of problematic & deteriorated sidewalks, carriage walks, and curbs within the Village Right of Way. As the Village policy states, "All sidewalk improvements shall be made in order to eliminate trip hazards as first priority. Efforts shall be made where appropriate to improve drainage. Identified drainage problems shall be addressed as directed specifically by the Village Engineering Staff." This year, Forward Construction has been awarded the contract.
A number of factors are used to determine if a sidewalk block is to be replaced. They include, but are not limited to, deteriorated joints, uneven squares (offsets greater than ¾"), transverse cracks, longitudinal cracks, holes, spalled surfaces, sunken slabs, back pitched slabs, graylining, open aggregate, and/or gaps greater than ¾".
Currently, sidewalk in the southwest corner of the Village is being marked for sidewalk improvements.
A white circle indicates the sidewalk block will be replaced. "L" shaped marks indicate that the raised portion of the sidewalk will be ground down to minimize tripping hazards. A white line parallel to a joint abutting a white circle indicates a saw cut.

Residential Trash and Recycling Collection Program
Schedule Update
The start date for the new Automated Residential Refuse and Recycling Collection Program is being pushed back to allow for the delivery of the three automated collection trucks to be utilized with the new program. No changes have yet occurred and the automated trucks have not yet arrived.
- No change will be made to pickup of Refuse or Recycling Collection until residents are notified via postcard of a change and delivery of carts. Recycling pickup will remain once a month until the new program is launched, carts are delivered, and pickup of old carts is scheduled.

- In the new program, cart placement will be maximum three feet from curb, opening towards street, with all items containerized in carts: Recycling in existing Blue Cart, Refuse inside new Gray Cart. Carts should be placed a minimum of three feet apart. Special Pickup details and other information will be bagged and included with new refuse cart delivery.

The Merchants of Whitefish Bay are excited to announce this year's Annual Sidewalk Sale for Friday, July 20th and Saturday, July 21st. Not only will you find great deals at this traditional sidewalk sale, but we also celebrate the summer season with live music featuring the Five Card Studs on Friday evening, July 20th. A special stage, sponsored by the Merchants of Whitefish Bay, will be on Diversey Boulevard at Silver Spring Drive. Block party on Diversey Boulevard will be from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. Beer, pizza from Roman Candle along with wine and apps from Moxie will be available.
The annual Sidewalk Sale starts early Friday morning (store openings are determined by each business - many are ready by 9:00 am) is an event not to be missed with incredible deals on fine, distinctive merchandise displayed street side. Stop down, swing by, and browse to your heart's content - all the wondrous wares that our shops, salons, boutiques, and spas can provide will be put out for you to peruse through during a relaxed summer saunter down Silver Spring Drive.
Saturday the sales continue along with great activities for the kids! The Merchants of WFB and Yellow Wood will have an Adventure Zone on Saturday with unique activities and a climbing wall starting at 10am on Berkeley Boulevard. Also, the Farmers' Market will be in the Aurora Parking Lot from 8am to noon on Saturday.

Sounds of Summer is just around the corner!
Enjoy the last, lazy days of summer at the Sounds of Summer on Saturday, August 18. The evening kicks off at 5:00 on Silver Spring Drive with Rocket Cat who
skillfully blends the band members backgrounds in alternative, progressive and hard rock as well as power pop. Trapper Shoepp takes the stage at 7:00.
Trapper is a young man who's befriended a strange and diverse cast of characters during his 27 years. That small army of rogues and rebels, drifters and dreamers, soldiers and schemers populate his songs, their tragedies and comedies, their lives and deaths recalled in his finely etched musical vignettes. Then dance the night away starting at 8:30 with Radio Radio,
a band of top musicians playing songs no other band is covering, in a way that makes you feel you are seeing and hearing the real thing live for the first time.
