Your Community Brief from Oak Ridge High School
Friday, April 12, 2019

The month of April is certainly passing quickly! As of today, we have already completed three full school weeks of the last quarter to 2018-2019. The pace will not slow as we still have annual exams (full schedule below), year-end special events such as our spring musical, prom, and the OCPS Parent Academy plus ongoing spring sports and senior activities to name a few of the major items on the calendar.

Getting Ready for the April 2 FSA Exam
Individual FSA pep talks with our 9th and 10th graders happened throughout the day before the Tuesday, April 2  test (below left). Every member of the administration and leadership team spoke with students stressing the importance of getting a good night's sleep, eating breakfast the next morning, being on time to school, having their laptop and charger set to go, knowing where their testing location was and most importantly - using all of their available test time. Thank you to our Pioneers for their efforts in making the administration of this initial component of the FSA to run smoothly.

Performing Arts Department
This year's spring musical is Once On This Island Jr. There are two performances next week: Wednesday, April 17th and Thursday, April 18th at 7:00 pm in the Maxine Risper Auditorium. Tickets are only $2 for students and $5 for general admission. This production promises to be a wonderful evening out for the whole family, so please plan to attend one of these performances!

REMINDER: No Early Dismissal Wednesdays
In order for all students to have the opportunity to  complete SAT and/or FSA tests without concern for running out of time, all students will be scheduled for a full school day instead of their normal early release on the following Wednesdays this spring:
  • Wednesday, May 1
  • Wednesday, May 8
  • Wednesday, May 15
Have a great weekend and please don't forget to select one of the two performances of Once On This Island Jr. for next week - I know you will have a memorable evening out!

With Pioneer Pride,

Ms. Jennifer Bellinger
Principal

Pictured very top: Oak Ridge's No Excuses Mentoring Program (NEMP) had 40 students earn an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or better during the 3rd quarter of 2018-2019 (story below; not all of the students are pictured above).

NEMP - No Excuses Mentoring Program

The No Excuses Mentoring Program would like to thank Career Source Central Florida for attending our recent meeting. This company provided tips on effective resume writing and job interviewing skills for our members! Scholarship, Leadership, and Community Service for All Mankind! @careersourceflorida  In addition, we had 40 students that earned an unweighted grade point average of a 3.0 or higher for the 3rd nine weeks. These students worked extremely hard to accomplish this goal, so please continue to support/encourage these young men to reach this goal during these last nine weeks!

Guest speaker from Career Source Central Florida speaking to our NEMP students on important job search skills
