Dear Colleagues:
To make sure that people far and wide can follow along as we build our new facility, the university has placed a video camera on top of the Brain and Spine Hospital. The camera looks thirteen stories down on the east section of Postle Hall and the courtyard where our new building will be located. A live feed to the college's website allows everyone to have 24-7 access to a bird's eye view of all that is going on.
It's like watching history in the making. Sidewalks and stairways that thousands have used to enter or exit Postle Hall have been broken up and taken away. Trees in the courtyard have been removed to make way for the new structure. And now, the site is being prepared to accommodate the demolition equipment that will soon tear down the southern half of the eastern wing of Postle Hall. Viewers are getting to see it all -- in color and in "real time."
As the weeks and months go by, there will be opportunities to watch all the phases of construction associated with our project. This includes pouring the foundation, erecting the steel structure, setting the stone and bricks in place, putting the roof on the building, and planting many more trees than were cut down in our expanded courtyard space.
I have heard from people across the state and around the country who are excited about having the opportunity to watch this project move forward -- literally "from the ground up." They tell me it's as if they are right here on our campus, watching everything up close. And when they share these comments, I can hear the pride and excitement in their voices.
Our hope with the web cam is that everyone who is connected to our college, whether they are students, staff, faculty, alumni, patients, or friends, will watch the progress being made. Our college has not had a project like this in more than 60 years, and the
web cam offers a chance to see it in a way that has never been done before in our college. It is truly a chance to watch history in the making!
