Sculptures in Newport Beach Civic Center Park Selected
 
At its April 9 meeting, the Newport Beach City Council unanimously approved the City Arts Commission's selections for Phase IV of the Sculpture Exhibition in Civic Center Park. Ten works will be added in June to the 9 currently on display from Phase III. They are: (top row, left to right) "Spy Boy" by David Buckingham of Los Angeles, "Hurricane" by Ray Katz of Pontiac MI, "The Tot" by Richard Becker of San Diego, and "Windswept" by Lake Daffner of Las Vegas NV; and (bottom row, left to right) "START Now" by Scott Froschauer of Los Angeles, "Contender" by John Merigian of Newton KS, "Feathers in the Wind" by Alex G. of San Diego, "Chairman of the Board" by Steven Rieman of Yucca Valley, "Slices of Heaven" by Craig Gray of Key West FL, and "Pinnacle" by Stephanie Bachiero of Laguna Beach. A June 22 opening event is being planned. Arts Orange County has been the consultant for this program to the City of Newport Beach since its inception in 2013.
Documentary on Global Public Artist Comes to NB Film Festival
Rafael Lozano-Hemmer is one of the most acclaimed artists working today, but his pieces wouldn't exist without participation. Shot over ten years in thirty cities around the world, this film takes an intimate look into Rafael's large-scale interactive creations in locations such as Trafalgar Square, the Vancouver Olympics and New York's Park Avenue Tunnel, culminating in a piece that crosses the US-Mexico border.   MegaloDemocrat: The Public Art of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer is co-presented by Arts Orange County and Newport Beach Film Festival on Thursday, May 2 at 6:00 pm, at Triangle Square Cinemas, 1870 Harbor Blvd, Costa Mesa. CITY OF SANTA ANA ARTS GRANTS
The City of Santa Ana's 2019-2020 Investing in the Artist Grant is now open! The theme for this year is Celebrating History Bearers in our Communities. The Arts and Culture Commission is seeking to award grants in the amounts of up to $5,000 for individual artists and up to $10,000 for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and artist collaboratives that will enrich and invigorate the Santa Ana arts and culture landscape. OC MUSIC & ARTS EDUCATORS AWARDS ANNOUNCED

The Orange County Music and Arts Administrators will present its 2019 Awards on Thursday, May 9, 6 pm at Samueli Theatre, Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Thirty will receive Outstanding Arts Educator honors and twenty-five will be honored with 2019 Orange County Music and Arts Awards. More details here.
SARAH RAFAEL GARCIA RECEIVES HOUSTON FELLOWSHIP
Santa Ana artist Sarah Rafael García has been awarded a 2019 Fellowship from Project Row Houses (PRH) and the Center for Art and Social Engagement (CASE) at the University of Houston's Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts (KGMCA). More details here.
