We're home to the "merriest race in town"

..... The streets of Fondren will host Good Samaritan's 12k's For The Holidays, Jackson's "merriest race in town" on Saturday.

The 12k run, 5k run and 5k walk wind through our beautiful historic Fondren neighborhood.

..... Not into running but want to support Good Sam which has supported our community for 45 years? Volunteers are still needed for pre-race day and race day duties - everything from course set up to cheer stations. To volunteer, contact Executive Director Kathy Clem .

..... Festivities start at 6:30 a.m. at the staging area, The Cedars , and end around 10 a.m.

Keep Old Canton Rd Beautiful - Saturday

..... Our volunteer brigade will be working on Old Canton Road Saturday between Hawthorn and Kings Highway, starting at 10 a.m. (after the 12k's for the Holidays runners come through).

..... Bring your gloves, rakes, shovels and clippers; we'll supply safety vests and water.

..... Any Fondren resident is welcome to join us in keeping one of our main streets beautiful! Email for more information.

..... A new restaurant is coming to Fondren: Dumbo's, a cocktail bar and dining room (next to Mozingo Clothiers on Duling). Sign up for their emails.

..... Named after Chef Paul Adair's childhood nickname, Dumbo's Chicken & Spirits is a moderately priced, 100+ seat restaurant focused on a mix of good times, funk music, creative entrees and well crafted cocktails - serving lunch and dinner seven days a week.

2020 Artist-in-Residence program

..... FRF is seeking an Artist in Residence for 2020 to foster our creative endeavors at The Cedars .

..... The successful candidate will be given 10 days at The Cedar s for classes, workshops and showings, as well as given exclusive gallery space in between scheduled gallery shows during 2020 and a commission rate of 60% on all sales. A stipend of $500 is included.

..... A special reception for the Artist in Residence will be scheduled at the artist's convenience. And, the artist will receive special recognition on fondren.org .

..... Preference will be given to Jackson area artists who work in a variety of mediums.

..... The 2020 Artist-in-Residence will be announced in mid-December. Apply before December 1, 2019.
