Armenia to Be Featured in Smithsonian Folklife Festival
The Smithsonian Institute's Folklife Festival will focus on the heritage of Armenia this summer, as one of its three featured cultural traditions. The festival will run June 27-July 1 and July 4-8, on the National Mall (b/n 12th and 14th Sts., south of the Museum of American History), in Washington, DC.
"Armenia: Creating Home" will offer a glimpse into the culture of Armenia and its ongoing exchange with diaspora communities across the world, through food presentations and artisan craft traditions. Click on the link to log onto the

The Smithsonian Institute is also looking for volunteers to assist stage managers, work with participants, etc., during the Folklife Festival. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, and will receive meal tickets and a t-shirt. Click on the link to

GTech Helps One Young Man to Propel His Career Ahead
Artashes Haroyan, 24, was one of the 30 students who finished an intensive Java Programming course at Fund for Armenian Relief's Gyumri Information Technology Center in May. "The knowledge and skills I've gained from my studies at GTech are invaluable," said Artashes. "But it was a lot of hard work, too. It taught me that a person should never succumb to despair when they face challenges. In my opinion, the best qualities for a successful IT expert are hard work and persistence." GTech has enabled hundreds of determined young professionals to advance their careers in IT. Currently, Artashes is a Junior Java Programmer at IP Space in Gyumri.

The Twelve Holy Apostles of Christ
On the Feast of the Twelve Holy Apostles of Christ and St. Paul, the Thirteenth Apostle, we honor the lives of these men who worked with Jesus to spread the word of the Lord to people around the world.
The Apostles brought the teachings of Jesus and God's message of salvation from sin and everlasting life to men and women living in countries far from the Holy Land-many of whom had never heard the word of God before. The Apostles courage, dedication, and deep faith still serve as an example to all of us today.
The Twelve Apostles are Simon Peter, James (son of Zebedee), John, Andrew, Phillip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (son of Alphaeus), Thaddeus, Simon, and Judas Iscariot.
The two Apostles who brought Christianity to Armenia are St. Bartholomew and St. Thaddeus.

Առաքյալները կազմում են երկրորդ եւ կարեւորագույն խումբը Նոր Կտակարանի սուրբերի մեջ: Քրիստոնեական սուրբերի շարքը սկսվում է Առաքյալներով: Առաքյալները դարձան առաջին մկրտվածները և՛ ջրով և՛ Ս. Հոգով:
Առաքյալ նշանակում է մեկի կողմից ուղարկված և ուղարկողի հեղինակությամբ և պատգամով: Քրիստոս Իր կենդանության ժամանակ այս տասներկուսին ՞զույգ-զույգ՞ ուղարկեց Ավետարանը քարոզելու՝ զուտ հրեական շրջանակներում: Նրանց հատկապես տվեց ՞իշխանություն:պիղծ դևերի վրա՞, ինչպես նաև հիվանդություններ բժշկելու կարողություն: /Մատթ. Ժ1/: Իսկ Իր վերջին պատվերը նրանց եղավ՝ ՞Ինչպես Հայրը Ինձ ուղարկեց, Ես էլ ձեզ եմ ուղարկում: Գնացե՛ք, ուրեմն, Ինձ աշակերտ դարձրեք բոլոր հեթանոսներին, մկրտեցեք նրանց Հոր, Որդու և Ս. Հոգու անունով, սովորեցրե՛ք նրանց պահել այն ամենը, որ ես իբրև պատվեր տվեցի ձեզ, ու Ես ձեզ հետ եմ մինչև աշխարհի վախճանը՞: /ԻԸ 18-19/:
Գործնականապես Առաքյալները եղան հիմքերը և հիմնադիրները եկեղեցու, այսինքն՝ առաջին անդամները, առաջնորդները, վարիչները և կազմակերպիչները:
Առհասարակ անուս Գալիլացիներ էին, մեծամասամբ ձկնորսներ, բայց իրենց թողած գրություններից դատելով, տեսնում ենք, որ տարիների ընթացքում զարգացել ու զորացել էին նաև իմացապես, ոչ միայն Քրիստոսի դաստիարակությամբ և Ս. Հոգու շնորհներով, այլ նաև հունարեն լեզվով գրելու և քարոզեկլու կարողությամբ: Նրանց առաջին գործունեությունը հավաքաբար մեզ ներկայացվում է Գործք Առաքելոցի առաջին գլուխներում, ուր հիշատակվում է նրանց դեմ գործադրված հալածանքները և չարչարանքները, որոնք իրենց բաժինը եղան իրենց ամբողջ կյանքի ընթացքում: Նոր Կտակարանի մեջ նրանցից միայն մեկի մահվամբ նահատակված լինելն է հիշատակվում, բայց քրիստոնեական ավանդությունը հաստաում է, որ բացի մեկից, բոլորն էլ մի առ մի նահատակվել են իրենց առաքելական գործունեության ընթացքում:
Տասներկուսից զատ, կան նաև ուրիշ քրիստոնյա գործիչներ, որոնք նույնպես Առաքյալներ են կոչվում, որոնցից մեծագույնն է նույն ինքը՝ Պոողոս Առաքյալը, ով եկեղեցու մեջ ծանոթ է որպես տասներեքերորդ Առաքյալ:
Տասներկու Առաքյալների և Պողոսի՝ տասներեքերորդ Առաքյալի տոնը հավաքաբար է կատարվում մեր եկեղեցու՝ Վարդավառի Բարեկենդանը կանխող շաբաթ օրը:

Andastan Service at the National Mall
On June 28, as a part of the Smithsonian Falklife Festival opening ceremonies, a special Service of the Blessing of the Fields (Andastan) took place at the National Mall. The Service was officiated by Very Reverend Fr. Daniel Findikian, Primate of the Eastern Diocese, His Grace Bishop Anoushavan Tanielian, Vicar General of the Eastern Prelacy. In attendance were Fr. Mardiors Chevian, Dean of St. Nersess Seminary, Fr. Sarkis Aktavoukian, Pastor of Soorp Khatch Church, Fr. Hovnan Bozoian, Pastor of St. Vartanantz Church, Fr. Hovsep Karapetyan, Pastor of St. Mary Church and Dn. Mark Krikorian.
The special guest during the prayer service was Armenia's President His Excellency Armen Sarkissian.
The Smithsonian Folklife Festival takes place on the National Mall between 12t and 14th streets from June 27-July 1 and July 4-8, 2018. Programs run most days from 11:30-6pm and evening concerts start at 6:30.
This year's festival highlights cultural creativity from Armenia and Catalonia. Enjoy craft demonstrations, music and dance performances, discussions, wine tastings, great food, shopping, and more.

FAR Empowers Artsakh's Nurses
Marine Dadamyan is one of eight nurses from Artsakh who recently finished a course on new approaches for general medical practitioners.
The 14-day interactive course was part of the Fund for Armenian Relief's new "Training of Artsakh Regional Nurses Program"-an effort made possible due to the visionary generosity of the Nazarian Family Foundation. Through courses taught at Armenia's National Institute of Health in Yerevan, the training program will benefit 120 nurses from four regions of Artsakh-Hadrut, Martakert, Kashatagh, and Qarvachar-in 2018. Some 400 nurses will benefit in the coming three years.
Nurses like Marine receive credentials to lead similar trainings in their home villages. Marine will next instruct 45 nurses in her region of Hadrut.

13Երբ Յիսուս այդ լսեց, այնտեղից նաւակով առանձին գնաց մի ամայի տեղ։ Երբ ժողովրդի բազմութիւնը լսեց այս, քաղաքներից հետիոտն նրա յետեւից գնաց։ 14Եւ երբ նա ցամաք ելաւ, տեսաւ բազում ժողովուրդ, գթաց նրանց եւ բժշկեց նրանց հիւանդներին։ 15Երեկոյեան դէմ, աշակերտները մօտեցան նրան եւ ասացին. «Այս տեղը ամայի է, եւ օրը տարաժամել է. արձակի՛ր այդ ժողովրդի բազմութիւնը,որպէսզի գնայ շրջակայ գիւղերը իր համար ուտելիք գնի»։ 16Եւ Յիսուս ասաց. «Հարկ չկայ, որ նրանք գնան, դո՛ւք նրանց ուտելու բան տուէք»։17Եւ նրանք ասացին նրան. «Այստեղ ուրիշ բան չունենք, բացի հինգ նկա¬նակից եւ երկու ձկից»։ 18Եւ նրանց ասաց. «Այստե՛ղ բերէք այդ»։ 19Եւ հրամայեց ժողովրդի բազմութիւնը նստեցնել խոտի վրայ. եւ վերց¬նելով հինգ նկանակն ու երկու ձկները՝ նայեց դէպի երկինք,օրհնեց, կտրեց եւ նկանակները աշակերտներին տուեց. իսկ աշակերտները՝ ժողովրդին։ 20Բոլորը կերան ու յագեցան։ Եւ տասներկու սակառ լիքը կտորտանքների մնացորդներ վերցրին։

Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a lonely place apart. But when the crowds heard it, they followed Him on foot from the towns. As he went ashore he saw a great throng; and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a lonely place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves." Jesus said, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." They said to him, "We have only five loaves here and two fishes." And he said, "Bring them here to me." Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
