Piketon Plant 2019 Public Tour
Schedule Announced
PIKETON - The U.S. Department of Energy has announced the schedule for 2019 public tours of the former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon.
The plant, now undergoing environmental cleanup work, had enriched uranium for U.S. defense and energy needs from 1954 to 2001. The tour includes a guided history of the site and a view of
current activities.
The Saturday tours are scheduled for April 27, May 18, June 15, July 20, Aug. 17, Sept. 21 and
Oct. 19. They begin with a badging at the OSU Endeavor Center from 8:30 to 9 a.m., followed
by a brief welcome and the boarding of a charter bus for the driving portion of the tour.
Participants will be returned to the Endeavor Center by noon.
The tour is mostly a driving tour, with up to two stops planned - one inside the plant and the other at the on-site waste disposal facility under construction.
Tours are free but available on a first come-first served basis, with spots available for only 40
people each month. At least 20 people are needed for the tour to take place, and all attendees
must be 18 or older and a U.S. citizen. No cameras, cell phones or other recording devices are
allowed.
Registration closes two weeks before the date of each tour and can be done online at www.fbportsmouth.com. For more information, contact Deneen Garner at deneen.garner@ports.pppo.gov or 740-897-2609.

Time for Spring Cleaning!
Spring has sprung! And what a welcome change to feel the warmer weather, see the sun shining, hear the birds chirping, and smell the wonderful flowers in bloom...and usually, with the warmer weather, comes the "spring cleaning" routine.
It's always important to not only take care of the cleaning side of this yearly chore, but especially for seniors, it's important to take this time to check other items that are also very important. The "spring cleaning" topic is very timely and a great opportunity to take stock of the overall safety of your loved one's home. Below are some important items you should check at least bi-annually to help your older or disabled loved one maintain their independence and safety:
