Summer Knights

The LNMS campus has been anything but "quiet" since the last day of school on May 30th. Our school is still very focused on serving the Lake Nona community this summer. We have been running All Stars, sports camps and academic programs.

Media Center
Our media center has been an oasis for students to do some Knight summer reading (below). During this upcoming patriotic celebration, you might find reading a book  your own oasis on the beach, porch, lawn, lake, or ocean. We encourage all members of our school community to read for pleasure this summer!

English Language Learners (ELL)
The summer Language Learner Program is for incoming 6th graders from other countries to learn reading strategies before the new school year begins. Welcome new Knights!

Sports
The National Basketball Academy of the Orlando Magic had a camp for all school ages in our gym.

We will be open on July 16-19 as well. Each day we offer access through the hours of 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Knight National Celebrations

Alana Baerga, Kate Satterfield, and Chanelle Rahbany won the "2018 13U AAU National Championship." These three students will be in the 8th grade next school year. Last year they were members of the Lake Nona Middle School volleyball team and were also all honor students.

This is a great accomplishment as the best teams from all over the USA, including Puerto Rico and Peru, competed with their top teams. With close to 100 teams in their age group, our girls' volleyball  team came in 1st. They all play for OTVA Volleyball Academy in Orlando. Not only did they win this prestigious national tournament, but also qualified to play in Detroit in the USAV Volleyball Junior Olympics.

WOW and congratulations!

STEM: "The Calculus Project"

The Orange County Calculus Project is an initiative to increase the number of students who enroll in and successfully complete AP Calculus. Completing AP Calculus in high school opens the gate for these students to enter the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Students began their journey this summer with continued support and monitoring as they matriculate through AP Calculus in high school. Their summer class ended with displayed projects, certificates of accomplishments and proud parents during a reception (below).

Just above: Individual Calculus projects were on display during the parent reception. The families also enjoyed a special cake and the participating students received certificates of completion.

Knight Sparkler

Our custodians have been doing a firecracker job in getting our school ready for the 2018- 2019 school year. Classroom floors have to be polished, walls have to be painted and carpet has to be cleaned so that we can celebrate for a parade of new students!

One of our unsung heros here at LNMS - Carlos, a member of our hardworking custodial team.

As part of the summer deep cleaning, hallways are being painted and floors polished.

Monday's Motivational Moment

THANK YOU, LAKE NONA MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS ON A JOB EXTREMELY WELL DONE IN 2017-2018!

Lake Nona Middle School just earned an "A" grade for the 2017-2018 school year based upon Florida Department of Education standards.

Some students have trouble reading. Some students get anxious when they have to stand and speak. Some face challenges that cannot be seen. And some students have come from a long way off and are just scared. Our teachers understand these things and are ready every day to give the students their best.

You see, adults are where they are today thanks in no small part due to their teachers. They make a difference in the world and are a big reason America is so blessed as a nation in the 21st century.

The administration is extremely proud of the job the teachers performed this past year and would like to remind them of 10 powerful points:

1. Your job title may be TEACHER but in reality you all are the ARCHITECT who is shaping humanity's future.

2. Teachers create opportunities not for just for a few, but for all.

3. Teachers do what books can't and what parents often don't.

4. The best part of being a teacher is that when your students grow up they will forget many of the classroom lessons you covered, but they will never forget YOU.

5. Teachers are the people who dedicate their entire lives for just one cause - helping others build their own.

6. There is no need to read life stories of successful entrepreneurs to feel inspired. Just look at the life of a teacher whose life revolves around giving others a better one.

7. Teachers can take a dollar (often one of their own) and stretch it to help students in ways that would make any banker or accountant proud.

8. The journey of every doctor, engineer, scientist, astronaut, programmer, architect, accountant, analyst and all other professions begins under the watchful eyes of the most important one of all - Teacher.

9. Even Superman is not as powerful as a good teacher. Superman has the power to fly, but teachers have something so much greater - the power to make someone else's dreams fly.

10. Teachers sometimes have to play many other roles during the school year: mother, father, nurse, confidant, coach, and role model.
