NAMIC-Denver held a panel discussion at SeriesFest on June 24 called "The Diversity Pendulum: What's Happening in TV and Media". They also co-sponsored a screening of the children's film "Craig of the Creek."

Hugo Balta, NAMIC ELDP Class XIV alumnus, NAMIC-New England board member and senior director, multicultural initiatives, ESPN, is taking on a temporary assignment nurturing relationships between ESPN, ABC News and journalism organizations that champion diversity and inclusion in newsrooms.

Cablefax
Whether it was through his work as The Cable Center's ambassador, his many years with the Cable Television Pioneers, or his decades at HBO and TelePrompTer, there's a good chance that most everyone in the industry encountered Les Read at some point. 

In many cases, cable companies already have fiber networks in place alongside school buildings and campuses. In cases where buildings are located off-network, cable companies can extend their existing networks or, in some cases, partner with other providers to ensure the buildings are connected.

Digiday
The launch of Instagram's IGTV has brought out the early adopter marketers. Companies like Chipotle, Nike, Netflix, Warby Parker, Trader Joe's, Everlane and Gucci are testing IGTV with content ranging from silly one-offs to interviews with influencers.

The agency just unveiled plans to launch a searchable database of television writers of color to help in the hiring of diverse voices.

Filmmaker Patrick G. Lee wasn't expecting to come across any references to queerness while walking through New York's Museum of Chinese in America. But there it was: the cover of a 1980 issue of Gay Insurgent, on which a group of Asian-Americans held a banner reading, "We're Asians, gay & proud."

Black Enterprise
Attorney Jaia Thomas decided that there needed to be one central location to find diverse talent when it came to staffing up behind-the-scene teams in the entertainment industry. Up until this point, one was left to put staffs together piecemeal, which for the most part, came by way of recommendations from industry peers.

Since 1888, National Geographic has been sharing the world with its readers, but stories are shaped by those doing the telling-and historically those perspectives have been white and male.
