Welcome to this week's Creativity Crate.
Today, August 21 is Poet's Day. Poetry is an incredibly versatile art form. It can make you laugh, cry, think, reflect or just relax. This is the moment to embrace poetry, enjoy poetry or even create it.
If you'd like to share a verse or poem of your own with us, please submit through the link below. Later, we'll share it back to our Creativity Crate community.
Wednesdays, September 2 - 30 • Does this Creativity Crate assignment give you pause? Inspire yourself to produce the vibrant, sparkling and unique poem that’s inside your head and waiting to come out. Each class will explore a poetic technique and provide exercises to develop that technique, providing an opportunity to connect with yourself and with others.
Thursdays, September 3 - 24 • Introduce yourself to the world of oil paints! This class is designed to give beginners and intermediate students a way to understand how to handle the medium of oil paint and how to mix color effectively. Students will work with and learn from paintings from old Masters like Gainsborough, Rembrandt and Zorn.
Tuesdays, September 9 - October 13 • Turn your couch into a classroom! If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at acrylic painting, now is your chance. Join teaching artist Erik Schlake online for a basic, beginner course on the ins and outs of painting with acrylics from color mixing, to application, to tricks and tips to get the most out of your painting experience.
Mondays, September 14 - 28 • Join instructor, Francesco Gilla, as he provides an introduction to drawing with charcoal through still life. By the end of this course, you will be equipped with the know-how to start experimenting and drawing with charcoal.
Deadline: November 6 • This new exhibition opportunity, in partnership with The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum, asks artists to dive into water - an essential component of life on our planet, environmentally, culturally and historically. Prizes will be awarded including $1,000 cash for Best In Show, $250 for 2nd place, $100 cash for 3rd place and Juror's Choice Award of $50.
The Alliance needs your help. Expense reductions and conservative budgeting only get us so far in making sure the Alliance remains a beacon of hope and connection for all in our community. If you're able to do so, please consider making a gift, of any amount, to support the future of the arts in southwest Florida.
