School Lunch Hero Day
School Lunch Hero Day is May 1--and Pierz Schools couldn't celebrate a more deserving group of people. From the moment the shocking news hit of the mandated school building closing, the meal service team at Pierz Schools got creative, switched gears, brainstormed and worked hard to make sure our students were well fed. On a typical day, the sc hool lunch staff brings a smile to the faces of the students who go through the line; however, with all students at home, staff had to get creative. As you may know, many of the bags that get delivered have a message, or a drawing, or something to brighten the day of the person receiving it. Why? Because our School Lunch Heroes want what's best for our students: serving food for their tummies and smiles on their faces, even from afar. Thank you to our current team of lunch heroes: Donna Solinger, Brenda Barker, Sandy Leikvoll, Michele Kampa, Sharon Millner, Emmy Keehr, Janel Jansen, Mary Jansen, Carol Kasper, Nikki Dickmann, Wendy Kapsner, Lisa Koening, and Tracy Voigt.
COVID-19: District Updates & Resources
Gov. Tim Walz Orders Schools Closed For Remainder of the Year
At the 2pm press conference on Thursday, April 23, Gov. Tim Walz ordered the state's public schools K-12 schools to stay closed for the remainder of the academic year to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Under the order, which will be announced Thursday, distance learning plans that have been in place for weeks will continue. The state's schools have been closed since March 18 and were set to remain closed until at least May 4, but Walz has left the door open to extending that order to cover the rest of the school year if it was recommended by health experts to limit the spread of the global pandemic. Unfortunately, this shuttering of all schools also means all spring sports and activities have been cancelled per mandate from the MSHSL.

Highlights and Day Brighteners
It's turkey hunting season, and Mr. Otte knows that Pioneer Elementary has some avid hunters. So--any girl or boy at Pioneer Elementary who harvests a turkey (with the safety and assistance of their mom, dad, or loving adult) and sends their photo with the turkey to Mr. Otte is qualified to go into the drawing for a free turkey mount! All the details are on the ' Fun with Mr. Otte ' page on our website. Good luck!
Digital Scavenger Hunt for Kindergartners
Keeping the attention span of kindergartners isn't an easy task when they are all in the same room. Keeping them on task and at attention when they aren't in the same room is even trickier. But it's possible. Mrs. Kotta's kindergartners were treated to a scavenger hunt this week, finding assigned items all around their homes. The students enjoyed interacting with each other via video conferencing from their Chromebooks and showing off their found treasures--in this case, it was a stuffed animal.
