Demand Justice for Detained Immigrants

Join NASW-NJ staff and members at the June 30 rally in Newark to demand justice for immigrant children and families.  We'll have a teal-colored sign that says NASW on it so people can find us.

The event organizers strongly recommend attendees take public transportation as opposed to driving.

Help an Unaccompanied Immigrant Child

NASW-NJ has received the following information from Center for Family Services (CFF) about how people can be of assistance to the immigrant children detained in our state.

Become a Shelter Parent  - Spread the word about the need for community members in New Jersey's southern region to open their homes to provide short term shelter for a child. English speaking and Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking homes needed.

Start a Collection - Host a collection to provide needed items for children in CFF's supportive housing programs. We can accept donations of new items.

Make a Donation  - Monetary donations help CFF expand their work and provide direct support to the children and families in our care.

Guidance on New Duty to Warn and Protect Requirements

Last week, Governor Murphy signed into law legislation that will require health care professionals, including social workers, to help keep firearms away from clients who may harm themselves or others. The legislation ( A1181 ) strengthens existing Duty to Warn or Protect law and requires clinicians to notify local police if a client makes a credible threat of violence, or is deemed to be a threat of violence, against themselves or others.

We've prepared a tip sheet to help social workers understand the new reporting requirements. The information is also available under the "Clinical SW" drop-down on our website.
