Message from Pastor Don

Dear Friends in Christ,

This week, Irvin and Connie Smith, and I, will be attending the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod’s convention at the Greenspoint Hilton Hotel. It runs Thursday noon through Saturday noon. More information about it can be found here: https://gulfcoastsynod.org/events/sa/

Our synod runs from La Grange on the west to the southern Louisiana/Mississippi border on the east; and from Matagorda County of the south to Lufkin on the north. Our synod has about 110 congregations, Lutherhill Ministries, and campus ministries at several colleges and universities.
Please keep Pastor Don and Irvin and Connie Smith (Covenant's voting delegates) in your prayers as they attend the Synod Assembly on May 17-19.

Interfaith Ministries Operation Impact Needs Volunteers
Gather your friends and family together to help our Meals on Wheels seniors get ready for the upcoming Hurricane season through Operation Impact!

Volunteer teams are needed to deliver Emergency Supplies (boxes containing 5 day's worth of shelf-stable meals, a case of water, and bags containing emergency preparedness supplies) to all 4,000+ Meals on Wheels seniors the morning of Saturday, June 2. (Covenant is one of the distribution sites.)

We need to DOUBLE the number of volunteers from last year to meet this year’s need. You can be a life-saver! And in light of what happened last year during Hurricane Harvey, I'm sure there's not a single person in Houston who does not recognize the importance of an effort like this.

Volunteer at the National Youth Gathering!
The Service Learning Team for the National Youth Gathering is still looking for local volunteers to serve as Project Supervisors during the Gathering! This is the opportunity that Cody Miller came to talk to the congregation about recently. FIND OUT MORE details and how to apply.
Blast Off for Books!
As an in-kind offering, we are collecting specific books for the 2018 ELCA Youth Gathering Literacy Campaign. These books will be used for HISD students. Download the flyer for more information and a list of the books needed. They request ONLY these books, please, and they should be new or gently used. (There are also copies of the book list in the lobby for you to pick up.) We will collect the books in the coming weeks (look for a donation spot in the lobby) and the youth will bring them to the National Youth Gathering on June 27. Thanks for your help!
Meals on Wheels Trainings
The Meals on Wheels distribution at Covenant has two routes, and help is always needed. There are monthly volunteer trainings from 10:00 - 11:30 am, in the Covenant Conference Room. The next training will be June 5. (The monthly training days are now the first Tuesday of the month.) Contact Sue Tabbert with any questions. We encourage you to participate if your schedule allows!
