Summer Reading Program - Join the Jefferson Barnes Reading Room in their summer reading program! The program is made for kids 5 - 15 years old and they can earn prizes just for reading. Kids can join at any time during the summer at the Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center Reading Room, located at 32150 Dorsey Street.


Meet Up and Eat Up -   Meet Up and Eat Up was created to ensure that children in lower-income areas could continue to receive nutritious meals during long school vacations, when they do not have access to the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Programs. Meet Up and Eat Up will be held at the Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center, located at 32150 Dorsey Street,  Monday - Thurday from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. from now until August 16.

Inspire Theater Presents "Yankee Doodle Dandy: Song and Dance Man"  Be sure to check out Inspire Theater's new musical "Yankee Doodle Dandy: Song and Dance Man." Come see the show at the Westland Center for the Arts, located at 33455 Warren Rd. Showtimes are Saturday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, July 7 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. For tickets and more information, click here

July Golf Special - Visit the Westland Municipal Golf Course this month and take advantage of the July golf special! The offer includes 9 holes of golf and a cart for only $15.00. This special runs from Sunday, July 1 until the end of the month at the Westland Municipal Golf Course, located at 500 South Merriman. Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

City Council
  • The Westland City Council will meet on Monday, July 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.
Planning Commission
  • The Planning Commission will meet on Tuesday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

City Offices and the 18th District Court Closed for Independence Day - City Offices and the 18th District Court will be closed on Wednesday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. 


All American Farmers & Artisans Market - The Westland Farmer's Market will be open on Thursday, July 5 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Farmers Market Pavilion located at 1901 N Carlson.  The Market will be open place Thursday  through October.
