Holy Week

Lent is observed during the six weeks before Easter.  Christians are reminded of their sins, repent of them, and hear of the suffering and death of Jesus in order that all humankind can be forgiven.  During the final week before Easter (Holy Week), we review the actual happenings in Jesus' life as He approached death on the cross.  Palm Sunday is the day He rode triumphantly into Jerusalem only to be rejected by many of those same people less than a week later.  During Holy Week, two special days are observed;  Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.  On Maundy Thursday we commemorate the institution of the Lord's Supper in which He offers His body and blood, bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins.  Along with Christians around the world we are reminded again of the actual death of Jesus on Good Friday.  It is aptly named Good Friday because it is GOOD (necessary) that He died so that we might live.  Then three days later we have the happiest and most thrilling celebration of our church tear, Easter, the day Jesus rose from the dead.  His rising from the dead is the proof that His work of redemption is competed for us.
In our classrooms children are hearing about those happenings in the life of their Savior.  Although we do not dwell on the gory details of death by crucifixion, we do help the children realize that Jesus did get hurt and die for us.  They learn that because of our sins Jesus had to suffer so that we can be forgiven.  He completely takes away our sin.  We don't have to do anything to gain forgiveness.  Your children hear over and over again that Jesus loves each no matter what.  And they believe it.
The most important thing they learn is that Jesus did not remain dead.  On the first Easter morning, He rose triumphantly from the grave.  That is the emphasis in all our teaching. We never talk about the death of Jesus without celebrating His resurrection.
Our class activities in the next months bring out the theme "new life".  Notice the take-home activities, the songs, the stories your child tells about school.  Look for the theme "new life".  It all leads to the truth that Jesus gives us new life through His suffering, death and resurrection.

HE IS RISEN!  HE IS RISEN INDEED!!!!!!
