Call For Action!

Tell Congress to Renew NFIP
before July 31st!

NAR, this week, issued a Call for Action to all members urging them to tell Congress to renew the National Flood Insurance Program before July 31st.

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) will expire on July 31, denying necessary insurance coverage to homeowners and buyers in more than 20,000 communities nationwide.

Congress must act now to reform and extend the NFIP.

Take action by urging Congress to extend the NFIP and pass meaningful reforms to ensure long-term viability of the program.

The action is easy - just click on the button below to be included in the REALTOR ® Call for Action!

Legal Hotline: Cannabis and Pocket Listings

NEW!

Washington REALTORS® Legal Hotline lawyer Annie Fitzsimmons has a few updates for us with respect to cannabis related real estate and also pocket listings.

First, cannabis:

An Obama era memo regarding cannabis was withdrawn by Attorney General Jeff Sessions which left some questions about how this administration would handle federal prosecutions around the use and sale of real property in relation to marijuana.

Also, Annie wants to update us on pocket listings.

Our industry is under a microscope with respect to competitive issues - in June, the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission met in Washington DC and are now analyzing the real estate market to identify if the marketplace is adequately competitive.

Annie explains why pocket listings could present a problem.

Development Code Hearing

  Wednesday, July 11th

The Spokane City Plan Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, beginning at 4:00 PM in the Council Chambers, Lower Level of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., to hear public testimony related to amendments to the Development Code standards for attached housing, lot widths, wall height, and parking area location standards to improve options for infill development at the levels permitted by the comprehensive plan.

Read more about this event online here.

Opportunity Zones

JULY 11th, 10 a.m.

Are you in one of these groups?
  • Community leaders
  • Tribal and local government leaders
  • Potential local (big and small) investors
  • Local businesses
  • Tax Professionals
  • Developers

Then the Federal Reserve Board of San Francisco wants to hear from you so it can invite you to a listening session in Spokane on July 11th at 10 a.m.

Spokane County had 11 census tracts (all 11 touch the City of Spokane) designated as Qualified Opportunity Zones - special areas that qualify for a new incentive for reinvesting capital gains and deferring taxes.

The Department of the Treasury and the IRS are still developing rules for this program. This listening session will help them do that.

Find out more about Spokane Opportunity Zones online here.

Send an email to Teri Stripes at the City of Spokane to be put on the invitation list for the listening session.

HoopFest - THIS WEEKEND!

THIS WEEKEND!

Downtown Spokane will host the city's 28th HoopFest this weekend - the largest three-on-three basketball tournament in the world.

Taking place each summer, during the last weekend of June, Hoopfest has become an iconic event within the city and throughout the world, bringing in over 250,000 people and generating over $46 million of economic impact to the local economy for the weekend event.

Spokane has a normal population of 216,000 people, so HoopFest more than doubles the city's size for two days.

It'll be tough to find parking and normal access to downtown this weekend so please plan ahead.

Visit the HoopFest website for more information, online here.
